21st April 2022 • The HERALD • Page 65 v INDEPENDENT, LOCAL AND PROUD v ART IN THE COFFEE HOUSE A one man show is being held in e Co ee House at St Andrew’s Church in Dibden Purlieu by local artist Colin Lewis and takes place until 7th May . e major theme is local maritime and marine subjects in a variety of mediums. e show is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9am until 2pm. Originally trained as an aircraft Apprentice and then as a technical Illustrator, later becoming involved in marketing. He has sailed almost all his life from small sailing dinghies’ to 50 cruising and racing yachts, being a past Commodore of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club and a Senior Watchkeeper at Calshot NCI Coastwatch Station. He focuses mainly in marine subjects in Oils, Acrylics and Watercolours, both in the UK and in Greece. Living only two miles from Lepe Country Park he is much inspired by the views of the Solent in all its di erent moods as well as the excitement of racing yachts. BOMBAY SAPPHIRE VISIT The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. MUSIC AT BEAULIEU On Saturday 14th May Music at Beaulieu presents the Orion Trio whose programme will include Beethoven’s Trio in G major Op.1 No.2 and conclude with Mendelssohn‘s Trio in D minor Op.49. e Trio’s pianist is Paul Searle-Barnes who has worked locally as a soloist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and, when he was living near East Boldre, occasionally played the organ for services at Beaulieu Abbey Church. Piotr Kopec plays the violin; he works regularly with string quartets and also on cruise ships: David Norton, a cellist, now partly retired a er a career as a teacher of the cello completes the Trio. eir recital will also include works by Elgar, Coleridge Taylor, Fletcher and Bach/Gounod. Music at Beaulieu concerts are held at Beaulieu Abbey Church and start at 7pm: doors will open at 6.30pm. ey are pleased to announce that masks are now optional and that they are able to re-introduce longer concerts with an interval.
