Sta and children from Reception and Year 2 classes at nearby Fawley Infant School were the rst group to visit the station since the start of the pandemic. In glorious spring sunshine, they learnt about the role of the RNLI, were able to see the equipment that volunteer crew use as well as learning some key water safety messages. Fawley Infant School Eagle Owls class teacher Daniel Spiers said: “The children loved meeting all the volunteers, getting to go on the boats and hearing all about the amazing work that the RNLI do. It was a wonderful experience, well managed and informative for all the children.” Calshot Lifeboat Visits and Deputy Press O cer Justyn Leonard added: “It was very special for everyone at Calshot, finally being able to open our doors and welcome visitors back into the station in a safe and secure environment has been a long time coming and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more members of the local community into the station in the coming weeks and months.” Fawley Infant School teacher Daniel Spiers with Calshot RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew Darren Taylor and Kelley Leonard (Photo Credit: RNLI/Justyn Leonard) Betty’s 5p Pots – Thank you from the RNLI! A huge thank you to those of you that are continuing to support the latest RNLI fundraising initiative Betty’s 5p Pots, in our area! e idea for Betty’s 5p Pots came from Betty Frith in May 2014, who was the Honorary Treasurer for over 20 years of the RNLI Hertford Branch. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but it has gradually been adopted by other RNLI branches throughout the country. Since 2017, you will have seen them popping up in cafés, pubs, restaurants, schools and shops throughout the local area, to relieve you of those 5ps that accumulate at the bottom of your purses, handbags and wallets. RNLI Hythe & Calshot Fundraising Branch weren’t sure if it would take o here, but they are delighted to announce that they’ve now raised over £6,000! If you wish to get involved, you can collect empty pots from, and return full ones, to e Herald O ce or any of the following: RNLI Calshot Lifeboat Station, Kara Accountants Ltd in Fawley, Zoutorias Fish and Chip shop in Black eld, Eastons Estate Agents in Holbury, Anthony James Properties in Dibden Purlieu, Mann & Co Estate Agents in Totton, Austin &Wyatt Estate Agents in Lyndhurst, Dobbies Garden Centre in Cadnam and Industrial Heaters Southern LTD in Brockenhurst.
