Sandra opened her rst premises in a narrow shop in Fawley village in 1968, aged just 19. Despite still juggling her oristry training at the time, her hard work and determination won through, seeing her move to a larger shop as the business prospered. Now, all these years later, Sandra’s Florist can be found on Long Lane in Holbury. With a superb team of orists, they continue to supply the Waterside with the gorgeous oral arrangements they’re renowned for. One of the most delightful aspects of being a long- standing business is that Sandra’s Florist has built up pubs, to regular customers who appreciate the quality of the owers on o er. Perhaps most pleasing is that Sandra’s Florist has provided wedding owers to countless happy couples for their big day, and, increasingly, to the daughters from those marriages for their own weddings. Sandra herself has created oral designs for Her Majesty the Queen and the Princess Royal, as well as many celebrity names, too. Although she celebrated y years in business in 2018, she is still the driving force behind the business, full of the passion and enthusiasm that enriched her all those years ago. If you’re thinking of owers to mark an occasion, then Sandra’s Florist has just the arrangement to mark the moment. ey even provide a Remind Me service, so you can register an important date and never have to worry about forgetting it ever again! You can learn more about Sandra and the team at the website, where you can also view the owers, as well as other gi s, and even place an order. From providing arrangements to businesses, restaurants, hotels and Read2Dogs Scheme Provided by Pets As Therapy (PAT) Pets As erapy (PAT) is a national charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people in communities across the UK. ey strive to ensure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal. One of the charity’s initiatives is the Read2Dogs scheme which helps to improve literacy skills and wellbeing in young people by developing their con dence, interest and enjoyment in reading. Some children feel incredibly nervous and stressed when asked to read aloud, regardless of whether they’re in a classroom or having a one-to-one session with a teacher. When a PAT Dog visits a school, their presence can boost a young person’s motivation and morale. Dogs are non- judgemental and great listeners - they don’t interrupt or correct - so they aid con dence and concentration levels. PAT Dogs are also known to encourage positive social behaviours, enhance self-esteem and inspire young people to relax and have fun. An i ma l - a s s i s t e d therapy can be used by teachers, SENCo, psychologists and speech and language therapists to bene t a young person’s physical, emotional and psychosocial health, cognitive funct ion and c o mm u n i c a t i o n skills. PAT volunteer Rachael Sones regularly takes her dog Arlo into schools to listen to children read, she says: “ I knew when Arlo was only a small puppy he would make an amazing therapy dog, with his patience and gentle nature. We both love seeing children’s faces light up in amazement when he arrives at school. There is a long list of excited children who can’t wait to read to him!” ere is a great demand locally for the Read2Dogs scheme.
