Saturday 28th May sees the rst of Shieldhall’s popular ‘Steam to the Solent Cruises’, timed (3.30pm–7pm) to coincide with the departure of the mighty cruise ships which will be passed at close quarters. On Sunday 29th May a trip between 2pm–6pm sees the Aphrodites Singers on board, performing songs from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day and Vera Lynn, as Shieldhall heads back to the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s! e long Platinum Jubilee Weekend allows Shieldhall the opportunity to steam up for three consecutive days between 3rd-5th June , during which time she will be celebrating the Best of British! Friday 3rd June will see a special commentary and talk on Southampton’s links with RMS Titanic (cruise between 2pm–7pm); Saturday 4th June (cruise between 3.30pm–7pm) sees Shieldhall welcome the Selsey Shantymen (returning a er their popular performance last year), whilst on Sunday 5th June (cruise between 3.30pm–7pm) an ‘All ings Steam’ cruise is being staged. is is an opportunity to highlight the steam engines of all shapes and sizes to be found on Shieldhall, with additional miniature steam engines to admire alongside. On all cruises, guests have the opportunity of visiting Shieldhall’s impressive Engine and Boiler Rooms; to meet the Captain on the Bridge; walk the teak decks and listen to an informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and the Solent. The Aphrodites Singers - performing on Sunday 29th May Friends of Lepe Summer activities A er two years of reduced activity due to Covid restrictions the Friends of Lepe are looking forward to a busy summer. Members will celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with a Pond dip, Prosecco and Picnic event on the a ernoon of 3rd June at Lepe Pond. e Annual General Meeting will be held on 14th July in the Lookout at Lepe and will be followed by a Ploughman’s Supper featuring local Hampshire produce and their Summer Barbecue will be on 17th August . Later in the year a visit to RNLI Calshot is planned and a talk about the White Tailed Eagles released onto the Isle of Wight is scheduled for 8th December . e Friends volunteering activities continue throughout the year. Opportunities to assist the sta at Lepe include practical conservation tasks, gardening in the Sensory garden, wildlife recording (birds, bees, butter ies, reptiles and wild owers), helping with events, manning the park reception desk at the Lookout and litter picking. At Gang Warily Recreation Centre from 9pm-10pm there will be a piper and bugle playing, the Marchwood Military Wives Choir will also be performing and they hope that you can all join them to start the celebration for Her Majesty the Queens 70th Year. e Big Jubilee Lunch is taking place on Sunday 5th June 11am-2pm on the eld at Gang Warily Recreation Centre. Take a picnic and listen to music and celebrate with your local community. ere will be food stalls, a bar, outside games and bouncy castles. For more information visit: facebook.com/GangWarilyFitness THE AMPFIELD MARKET e Market is always held on the first Saturday of the month excluding January and August which are holiday months, and takes place in Amp eld Village Hall (SO51 9BJ), between 10am and 12noon. Parking and admission are free. e Market, established in 2000, has become a very popular meeting place, o ering the best value, most delicious refreshments in Hampshire! Every e ort is made to keep the sales tables lively and interesting. ere are top quality, locally sourced items for sale including cakes, biscuits, savoury foods, honey, fresh bread, eggs, plants, fruit and veg, cra s, books, cards, wrapping paper, jewellery and collectables. ey order their fruit and veg from a very reputable local supplier and endeavour to sell a good variety of fresh, seasonal produce every month. e Market generates £1,500 a year towards Village Hall funds. e Market team generously volunteer their time and baking skills to provide a delicious seasonal selection of cakes every month, which are served with co ee throughout the morning. e next market at Amp eld will take place on Saturday 4th June (this will be a special event to mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee), between 10am and 12noon. ey make every e ort to ensure that your visit is Covid-safe, but they would be grateful if you would please wear a mask for the safety of others. 2022 Market dates for your diary: 2nd July, 3rd September, 1st October, 5th November and 3rd December . ey still have a waiting list, but if you would like to rent a table in the future or would just like more general information, then please contact Julie Trotter vi a: julie@amp eld.org.uk Local History - Old & New – Totton Are you over 55 and want to make the most of life once you’re no longer in full time work by exploring and sharing new ideas, skills and interests with your local U3A?
