On the High Street there is one of Lymington’s original town gardens while, nearby, another o ers an oasis of calm. Some gardens have been speci cally designed, one as a sensory garden, another featuring gravel to counter a high water table. Other gardens feature raised beds and themed fairy gardens for the grandchildren, vegetable plots, and experiments in advanced composting techniques, chickens, as well as ponds, pergolas and patios in varying styles. In one garden you can see what may be the oldest plane tree in England, whilst another features a magni cent Scarlet Oak. Whether you are a plants-person or are interested in garden design and layout, go along and celebrate the beauty of the English garden. e garden owners will be on hand to answer your questions. Admission is by programme, costing £7.50 per adult, obtainable from the St Barbe museum shop or from any participating garden on the day. Teas with home- made cakes and plant stalls will be available. Organised by the Friends of St Barbe Museum + Art Gallery, all the pro ts will support the museum and its outreach activities. On Wednesday 22nd June they are planning a visit - arrangements to be con rmed. Followed on Thursday 21st July for talk by Martin Young titled ‘Make a Butter y Garden’. Meetings take place on the third ursday of the month at Copythorne Parish Hall, Pollards Moor Road, Copythorne SO40 2NT at 7.30pm. New members and visitors are always welcome. Visitors fee applies.
