A er running classes for a number of years in Ringwood and Salisbury, Fantastique French Tuition (FFT) are expanding into Romsey, with weekly French classes starting at Woodley Village Hall on Wednesday 22nd June . FFT has been run by professional tutor Tim Robins since 2013, and like many businesses emerging from the pandemic, Tim is delighted that he can now see his clients en personne : “I was really grateful to our loyal students who continued their learning online during the various lockdowns. But nothing beats the vibrancy, immediacy and laughs of a face-to-face class, and so we were all chomping at the bit to resume physical lessons. We are now really pleased to be bringing - for the first time - our face-to-face teaching to the other side of the New Forest, enabling even more people to come and discover, or re-discover, the joy of speaking French.” FFT are o ering courses for both new and existing students at four di erent levels - from absolute beginners right through to advanced learners. Classes are strictly limited to a maximum of 8 students to enable everyone to participate fully. e emphasis is very much on having fun and promoting con dence in real-life situations, rather than memorising pages of verb tables! So if you fancy a new challenge, or want to re-connect with the language as summer approaches and you prepare to cross the Channel again, please don’t hesitate to get in contact as there is sure to be a course to suit you. And to celebrate our opening in Romsey, readers just need to quote The Herald and they’ll receive their rst lesson 100% free! For more détails and to réserver your place , please visit fantastiquefrenchtuition.co.uk or téléphoner 07944 340563. Merci et à bientôt! New French classes in Romsey WHEN GERALD MET GERALD! based at Amberley Museum in its original World War 1 Ministry of Munitions form. Although Chris will not be able to be at HPHA’s Centenary Celebration at Rock the Pier on the 23rd July , his model will be one of the working attractions on display. Hungerford based model maker Chris Rennie brought his detailed 1:19 scale 3D printed, remote controlled working model of the Hythe Pier Railway Brush locomotive 16307 ‘Gerald Yorke’ to Hythe Pier. Having read “The Heartbeat of Hythe – The Story of the Hythe Pier Railway” , Chris contacted its author, Alan Titheridge, for assistance to support his plans to produce the model. Chris accepted Alan’s invitation for a ‘back stage’ pass, coming to Hythe at the end of April to view and get up close and personal with the 105 years-old locomotive. Chris was granted full access, courtesy of Hythe Pier Heritage Association (HPHA) and Blue Funnel Ferries, to the two locomotives that operate on the Guinness World Record-holding pier railway and to the Blue Funnel workshop. Chris was also able to see the progress being made on the second carriage being restored by HPHA and the Hythe Shed (at the Pier) and meet the volunteers led by Allan Fairhead, who were not only able to explain the work being undertaken with the restoration project but both interested and excited to learn of the model proposed locomotive “Ant” and a North Wales Ffestiniog Railway gravity slate waggon. ese are motorised and run by smartphone operated Loco Remote controllers which Chris also designs. Chris is now making a model of the Hythe locomotives’ sibling by Chris. Chr i s i s a rai lway enthusiast and e x p e r i e n c e d in this type of project.
