Friday 1st July see’s Dibden Golf Course host the 10th annual SO45 Online Charity Golf Day. 120 golfers are expected to take part in this year’s event. All attempting to be crowned champion golfer and win the prestigious Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy. Paul, a local man and a keen golfer sadly lost his life to cancer in 2012 and as he was a friend and a part of a local golf society his family were asked the main trophy could be named a er him in his memory. On the day there will be an 18 hole golf tournament followed by a BBQ, ra e, auction and the golf presentation. Ellie and her team on the refreshments side at the course and Anthony and his team on the golf side really help to make this event run smoothly working with the event organisers Michael and Donna Osman from Oyster Financial Planning. they have organised over the years including the SO45 Lottery have raised in total £92,000. Michael set a target of raising £100,000 in the coming 10 years and with the golf day in July if they can raise at least £8,000 they will achieve this goal. Every penny raised stays in the SO45 postcode. Lots of the golfers have played every year and really feel a part of the team which is fantastic. e generosity of local businesses helps the fundraising e ort through sponsorship of holes, golf prizes and donating ra e and auction prizes. If you would like to donate a prize on the day to aid the fundraising please get in touch by popping into the Oyster Financial Planning o ce in Hythe. All funds raised on the day are donated to local good causes. e Waterside Cancer Centre has been a major bene ciary over the last 10 years along with other SO45 causes. So far the team have raised £56,000 on the golf days alone and SO45 Online with other events Could You Spare a Few Hours to Volunteer with Wessex Cancer Trust? Wessex Cancer Trust’s Waterside Support Centre at e Grove, St John’s Street, provides free and emotional support to anyone a ected by cancer. Anyone can drop in and chat with a befriender, arrange professional counselling, have complementary therapies and join activities and support groups. Its committed volunteers – many of whom have a personal experience of cancer, play a key role in supporting local people living with cancer and the Support Centre is now looking to grow its team. Could you help? You can volunteer on a regular basis or on a more casual basis. Volunteering can be incredibly rewarding, providing opportunities to ‘give back’, gain con dence, learn new skills and meet new people. What’s more, you’ll be part of a community that ensures local people have a place to go, when they most need it.
