On her return to berth Shieldhall will get up close to the cruise ships Ventura, Sky Princess, Iona and MSC Magni ca - always the chance to sound her steam whistle and play the ‘Shieldhall Organ’ ! On the 26th June , Shieldhall has a shorter trip, 2.30pm to 6pm, when she will ‘Steam to the Solent’ passing the cruise ships Britannia and Emerald Princess. A popular trip is staged on Saturday 2nd July , 10.30am to 6pm when Shieldhall ventures out into the Eastern Solent, circling the near-mythical ‘ Nab Tower’ ! Guests are encouraged to look out for its famous lean! Also on board will be guests from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, who will showcase their ‘Secrets of the Solent’ campaign. American Independence Day is marked on Sunday 17th July has sold out, but an extra date has been added to the programme, with Shieldhall staging another ‘ Steam to the Solent’ cruise on Saturday 16th July between 3.30pm to 7pm. On a very busy cruise ship day, it is expected that Shieldhall will see the departure of Iona, Celebrity Silhouette, Ventura and MSC Virtuosa – expect lots of whistle tooting! On all cruises, guests have the opportunity of visiting Shieldhall’s impressive Engine and Boiler Rooms; to meet the Captain on the Bridge; walk the teak decks and listen to an informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and the Solent. A wide range of refreshments are available on board. Free parking is available close to the Shieldhall berth in the Western Docks. Shieldhall plans to sail close to the cruise ships leaving Southampton 3rd July , 11.30am to 6pm, when Shieldhall welcomes the excellent ‘Soulcatchers’ on board, performing soul and summer in uenced tracks, hopefully on a sun drenched open deck! Shieldhall will sail to Hurst Castle, passing the New Forest Coast, Lepe, Exbury and Beaulieu and the north shore of the Isle of Wight. Shieldhall’s cruise to Portsmouth Harbour on Sunday Walbank Opticians and Lions Link Up Walbank Opticians, an independent family optician in Holbury, are linking up with the Romsey & Waterside Lions Club who cover the Hythe and surrounding area, to support local charities this month. Twinkle Patel of Walbank Opticians has said that they will donate 5% of the cost of all purchases made at their shop between Monday 20th June and Friday 24th June. Romsey & Waterside Lions hold various activities to raise funds to help charities in the local area. A spokesperson from the Lions Club said that they were extremely grateful for the support from Walbank Opticians as all charities have been hit due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and the contribution from Walbank Opticians will go some way to helping a local group on the Waterside. e Lions are run on a not-for-pro t basis and welcome anyone who wishes to give of their time to help others and enjoy a like-minded social group.
