The Big Sustainability Awards 2022 Returns This Autumn e Big Sustainability Awards are returning to Southampton’s St. Mary’s Stadium on 22nd September this year. e ceremony, organised by e Southern Sustainability Partnership, will celebrate businesses and public organisations making a di erence to the planet and reducing their environmental impact. Hosting the event this year for the rst time is Megan McCubbin, English zoologist, conservationist, photographer and television presenter. McCubbin has co-hosted Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch alongside her stepfather, Chris Packham on BBC Two since 2020. e award categories for this year include, Carbon and Energy Management, Col laborat ion, Communicat ing Sustainability, Finance for Good, Net Zero, Startup of the Year, Waste, Water Management and the Unsung Hero of the Year. Anita Potten, Director of the event organisers, e Southern Sustainability Partnership, comments: “We’re incredibly excited for another year celebrating the best sustainability practices and initiatives that businesses and organisations have to offer. We can’t wait to welcome some fresh faces as well as familiar ones this year to celebrate their achievements.” e Big Sustainability Awards 2022 is taking place at St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton on ursday 22nd September between 7pm and midnight, following e Big Sustainability Expo earlier in the day. Nominations are open until 31st July with nalists announced on 31st August. Nominations Open for Prestigious Seafarer Award Nominations are open for a prestigious welfare award in the maritime sector. e Annual Award for Service to Seafarers’ Welfare, founded in 1988 by the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB), is given for exceptional service to the welfare of seafarers or shers. Nominees can be either salaried personnel or volunteers in the maritime charity sector and should have a history of making a positive and proactive contribution to the welfare of seafarers over a long period of time. Stuart Rivers, Chief Executive of the MNWB which is the umbrella charity forMerchant Navy and shing eets that supports and promotes co-operation between organisations providing welfare services to seafarers, shermen and their dependents, said: “This is a fantastic award which, since it was established 34 years ago, has been awarded to so many worthy recipients. These have been very challenging times and we know many people in the maritime welfare sector have gone above and beyond what is usually expected. With that in mind, I’d strongly urge you to submit your nominations so we can help to recognise the amazing and exceptional work that is being done to support to seafarers and fishers.” Nominations for the award can be made at mnwb.org/award_seafarers e closing date for nominations is 29th July 2022 . e Board kindly requests that you do not inform a nominee of his or her nomination. e award will be announced on World Maritime Day later this year on the 29th September 2022.
