Highest S/F Pts and 3rd Team Win - New Forest Golf Club Seniors Isle of Wight tour e 2022 New Forest Seniors Isle of Wight tour kicked o with a match against Ryde Golf Club Seniors where possibly for the very rst time, New Forest won 3½ - 2½ . e Ryde course was in great condition and the greens, although a bit slow ran true. e weather was generally kind with some sunshine and a light breeze, however a sudden squall saw groups race for shelter for several minutes. Day 2 at Cowes with the course looking great and the greens running fast saw weather and golf deteriorate somewhat, with Cowes winning 6-0 in strong winds and occasional rain. On day 3 the weather was beautiful with sunshine and light breezes and the Osborne course was in lovely condition. Osborne eventually held the day winning 5 ½ - ½ but it was not about the winning or losing, it was the warmth of the welcome, renewal of old friendships and the camaraderie that really mattered – plus the 3½ - 2½ win at Ryde! Monday 16th May and although the weather had been wet overnight the day was reasonably dry with rain forecast for later. is did not deter 29 Bramshott Hill Seniors as they set out to play a Stableford Quali er. Luckily the rain held o for the duration of the match which produced some ne scores. e results were; Division 1: 1st Stuart Bulbrooke 39pts, 2nd PaulWastell 38pts, 3rd RobHallett 37pts; Division 2: 1st John Bailey 39pts, 2nd Ron Gooding 38pts (a er countback), 3rd John Gordon 38pts. 34 Bramshott Hill Seniors set out to play their rst Medal Quali er of the year playing the Yellow Course. e weather was fair and the course in good condition so good results were expected. e results were as follows: Division 1: Brian Lewis Gross 80 - 17 H’cap = nett 63, Brian Denham Gross 82 - 17 H’cap = nett 65, Trelford Douglas Gross 86 - 16 H’cap = nett 70; Division 2: Ray Dunkason Gross 82 - 23 H’cap = nett 59, Bill Merrett Gross 92 - 25 H’cap = nett 67, Barry Walker Gross 93 - 25 H’cap = nett 68; Division 3: Eddie Ford Gross 91 - 32 H’cap = nett 59, Brian Cox Gross 98 - 32 H’cap = nett 66, John Bailey Gross 95 - 27 H’cap = nett 68. ursday 19th May saw Bramshott Hill Seniors welcome Senior players from Bramshaw Golf Club for a return match. e previous week saw Bramshaw beat Bramshott Hill by four games to two New Forest Seniors’ lowest handicap golfers (Left to Right) Laurie Burn (hi=3.6) and Steve Duckett (hi=4.5) warming up on the practice green at Ryde. Hampshire Ladies Golf (HLG) held their annual championship week at Alresford golf club and 87 ladies played in beautiful sunshine to compete for HLG stableford championships. is event showcases the best of ladies golf in Hampshire. Linda Compton of Bramshott Hill Golf Club entered the competition for the rst time and was a worthy winner with 38 points - what an amazing achievement. Some 70 matches on from the start of this competition, the four New Forest Golf Club Seniors Section Winter League nalists met under overcast skies. Six months ago, 7 pairs started playing against one another in each of 3 divisions, the top two in each division plus the two best third places going on to play in the knockout stages culminating in this nal. e weather was kind with the sun making brief appearances from time to time. e two teams could really not have been much closer matched with only 3 strokes playing handicap di erence being claimed by just one person. Very little separated the two teams for most of the BRAMSHOTT HILL LADIES TAKE THEIR WINNING STREAK TO COUNTY LEVEL Linda Compton (right) with her winning trophy so the match was eagerly anticipated with Bramshott Hill determined to seek revenge for their loss of the previous week. With ne conditions and excellent course conditions the teams set o . I am pleased to report that Bramshott Hill were victorious winning the match by ve games to one. Following the match the normal friendly banter and a good meal were enjoyed by all. BRAMSHOTT HILL SENIORS RESULTS Bramshott Hill Team v Bramshaw A friendly group of retired ladies who play Badminton in Dibden Purlieu are looking for new players to join them. ey meet at the WI hall in Dibden Purlieu on Tuesdays from 10am to 12noon. ey welcome with open arms any new players of any ability to join them.
