The three day event featured boys and girls competitions in three age groups as England took on Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey Despite weather predictions of high temperatures, heavy cloud cover kept 31 New Forest Golf Club Seniors reasonably cool throughout this strokeplay competition o the white tees. In division 1, Terry Gordon emerged 2 strokes ahead of his nearest rival with an excellent and Isle of Man. Gene is the Hampshire Schools Under 13 champion and then went on to win a bronze medal at the English Schools Championships at Wolverhampton in April. is in turn quali ed her to play for England. At the Senior Schools International at Largs, she represented the England B team in the Under 14 category. Her team won all of the seven matches that they played. Gene was the only undefeated player in the competition winning both of her games against the England A team in their 4-1 win. us winning a team gold medal. On the third day of the competition Gene won another Gold Medal in the Individual event. She beat Sophie Ackred (England A) 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 in the semi nal and then in the nal triumphed against England A’s Naomi Coker 13-11, 6-11, 11-2, 11-8. Gene is one of a number of promising young players at Waterside Table Tennis Club based at Testwood Mondays and Fridays all the year round from 7pm to 10pm – no need to book – just go along for a rst free session. Please note that the accent of this group is on fun and exercise so although they all want to improve their skills it might not suit very keen competitive players – but, of course, everyone is welcome! e cost is very reasonable; if there are 6 people attending a one-hour session using one table it’s £1 each but if there are only 2 it’s £3 each. e session is booked and paid for a week in advance.
