For over 50 years the animals at Barry’s Farm on Frost Lane in Hythe have been entertaining local children and adults. e menagerie of animals including Jacob the donkey, alpacas Prince and Fudge, Daisy and Clover the goats, Maggie the pig and all the ducks, geese and chickens certainly bring a smile to your face when you visit them. Sadly due to owner Barry’s ill health the farm is in need of help both physically and nancially to enable the farm to continue. A crowdfunding page was set up by Steve Green to raise £2,000 for the farm recently with the hope of funding the refurbishment of the duck pond. Work started on the pond in July, but just a er it had been drained ready to inspect the liner, Barry’s beloved donkey Toby was taken ill very suddenly and sadly had to be put to sleep. e money unfortunately had to be used towards Toby’s vet bill. e Herald have contacted some local businesses with the hope of funding the new pond - we will keep you updated with progress. We know that times are hard but if you can spare some money to help fund feed and future care for the animals there is now a collection tin in e Herald O ce in Hythe where you can make a cash donation. Alternatively you can make a donation online via the go fund me page: gofund. me/8a5da09e e cards by artist and farm volunteer Christine Jones are still available for sale in the o ce too priced at £2 with all proceeds going to the farm. If you are an animal lover and have some time to spare to help look a er the animals Barry’s family are looking to expand their team of committed volunteers. e animals are all let out at 8.30am every morning and put away every evening at 6.30pm, if you think you could help please contact Sarah at the Herald (sbartlett@herald-publishing. co.uk) and she will put you in touch with Barry’s family to arrange a time for you to meet the animals and learn the ropes. Barry and his family are grateful for any help they receive. As a community we can all play a part in helping Barry’s Farm continue and thrive for future generations to enjoy.
