Lucy grew up in Dibden Purlieu attending Wildground and Noadswood Schools before attending Brockenhurst College where she studied Sports Science. She then went on to study for a degree in Sports Science at She eld Hallam University, graduating in 2021 with a rst class degree. Lucy fell in love with diving a er joining a holiday taster session at e Quays swimming pool in Southampton in 2010 and was invited to join the Southampton Diving Academy City of She eld Diving Club. Like many athletes her training came to a stop during lockdown returning home to Dibden Purlieu where she continued dry-land training with her team mates via zoom calls. Once restrictions were li ed Lucy gradually returned to the pool and recommenced competing at national events at the end of 2021. On reaching the Team Wales qualifying score in May 2022 Lucy was delighted to hear in June that she had been selected to join Team Wales at Birmingham 2022. Lucy has Welsh connections through her Mum Racheal’s side. Racheal was born in Haverfordwest and grew up in Left to right: Geraint Thomas OBE, Team Wales Racing Cyclist & Birmingham 2022 Flag Bearer and Lucy Hawkins Team Wales Diver Lucy has been training at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre with the Milford Haven; her father (Lucy’s Granfer) was born in the same area and worked for Esso Re nery in Milford before he was relocated to Fawley. Lucy competed in the individual 10m platform event making it through all the heats to dive in the nal! Talent Squad. During her time at University and since graduating Social Responsibility Award 2021/22 Waterside Primary School Waterside Primary School nominated Abigail (Abi) to receive Hythe & Waterside Rotary’s Social Responsibility Award for this year. Participating schools are asked to nominate a pupil who has gone ‘above and beyond’ in either, or both, their school community or the wider community and a donation is made to a charitable cause by the Club on behalf of the pupil. Abi is a Year 1 pupil who has a sense of responsibility for the environment and is always happy to take action on her own initiative to deal with issues she encounters. A good example of this is that recently, Abi heard a comment about litter in the school grounds and without being asked, set about collecting and disposing of the litter. Abi was presented with her certi cate by Hythe & Waterside Rotarian Tim Parsons at the school’s celebration assembly on the last day of term. Abi is an active member of the Beavers section of the 3rd Dibden Purlieu Scout Group and has asked that the donation goes to them. Hythe &Waterside Rotary is delighted to con rm that a donation of £150 has been made in Abi’s name to the Scout Group. Rotarian Tim Parsons and Abi
