Last year they were delighted with the support from the local community who either donated decorated trees to be auctioned or gave trees and Christmas decorations beforehand. ey had over 60 trees and 15 wreaths in the church which not only provided a beautiful spectacle but raised valuable funds to support both St John’s and their charity, Hythe 2000. e festival was welcomed by all as a touch of ‘normality’ a er the restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 epidemic. is year they again need your help and support to make the festival a success. New Forest Art Society News e New Forest Art Society held a successful annual exhibition at Lyndhurst Community Centre in August. e exhibition showcased the work of 41 members and included paintings, miniatures and portfolio works. Working in a variety of media, the artists presented subjects in a range of styles including still life, townscape, landscape and abstract. e committee and public vote both awarded Karen Burke’s painting ‘Guess What I Just Heard’ best in the exhibition. Other artists commended by the people’s choice vote were Carol Reed and Gary Symes, for the humorous ‘50 Sheds of Grey’, Carol Mileusnic, Brenda Molynuex and Alexis Hockham. e exhibition attracted many visitors, both local and holidaymakers, and sales were buoyant. Jan Wheat, Chair of the Society, thanked everyone for their hard work in organising the exhibition. A sale of Art and Cra is planned for 5th and 6th November, also at the Community Centre, from 10am-4pm. Members of the society are delighted to be exhibiting again at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, from Saturday 7th until Sunday 15th January. e Society will continue to hold monthly meetings in the autumn, on the third Wednesday of the month, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, in the Community Centre. New members are always welcome and visitors are warmly invited to go along for a small entry fee of £5. Meetings take place on the rst Tuesday of the month in the St Andrew’s Centre in Dibden Purlieu at 7.15pm. New members are always welcome. In August they enjoyed a day out at the Lavender Farm in Landford where the past two Presidents were each presented with a plant. Hythe and District Inner Wheel Past two Presidents The exhibition all set up ready for visitors Cornerstone Hythe URC is delighted to welcome the return of New Forest Brass for a concert on Saturday 15th October at 7.30pm. e programme will include original Brass Band pieces, music from lms and shows and some popular songs.  ere will also be some exciting solos from some of the band’s talented players. Don’t miss out on a great concert! Tickets at £10 (under 18 £2) are available in advance from: Cornerstone Church O ce, New Road, Hythe (Tel: 023 8084 5005) and e Herald O ce in Hythe. Tickets include a programme and complimentary refreshments during the interval. Proceeds from the concert are for the Band and the Cornerstone Outreach Fund, supporting the Church’s mission overseas in Uganda, Sierra Leone and Ukraine. e band, which is based at Hounsdown School, rehearses on Tuesday evenings throughout the year.  ey are also proud to have a Training Band in which players of all ages and abilities can enjoy making music together.
