Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II One of the images from the calendar ………. e special tea of e Queen’s favourite, a jam sandwich, took place in the Jubilee Hall on Friday 16th September. e event was attended by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Lena Samuels who signed the Book of Condolence. Councillor Alan Alvey, Chairman of the Council, said: “It has been wonderful to be part of this event, enabling people to come together to remember our amazing Queen of 70 years.” Cllr Alvey also thanked e Falcon Inn of Fawley who provided the sandwiches and cake, the ladies of the Good Shepherd Church, Holbury who assisted sta with making sure everyone had a cuppa and a bite to eat. e table decorations were provided by 1st Fawley together the ower arrangements. Cllr Alvey also asked everyone who attended to pop their thinking caps on and let him know of their thoughts on what a Fawley memorial to our late Queen should be. It is the local connection that attracts many people. Some have told them that they had their children at the old Hythe Hospital. Others that their children were married at Eling Church. Many calendars have been bought to send to friends and relatives who no longer reside in Hythe. Some of the original calendar paintings were snapped up at their recent Exhibition. What they really need and are very short of is male singers. Always happy to take more ladies but some more male voices would be really good. ey know that the men are very shy initially but they are a very sociable group. roughout the year they organise get togethers, like cream teas, meeting for drinks and always Christmas lunch. A er their session on ursday a ernoons they go to a local pub to chat about the session or anything else of interest.
