Set up by e Waterside Food Project, the fridge will be located in Hythe Library and will o er the community access to chilled and frozen foods from supermarkets and other food producers that may have otherwise gone to land ll. Over the past two years food has been distributed by e Waterside Food Project across the Waterside from Totton to Langley, working to make sure that no food is wasted, that everyone can access healthy food as well as helping to educate what healthy food is, and what impact our food has on the planet. e Waterside Food Project is one of the many projects run by the New Forest Aquaponics CIC, working alongside the WasteNot WantNot (WIN project) run by Dawn Cullen and Windward Day Services they have ensured that as many people as possible who need to can access food via food pop ups and food cupboards where they live. e three groups and their fantastic teams of volunteers drive around late at night collecting and distributing food to the local area, working together and supporting each other’s work. e community fridge will consist of at least one fridge and one freezer, allowing community access to chilled and frozen foods, helping to reduce food waste even further. Lucie Mann from New Forest Aquaponics CIC comments: “Being in the library we hope that many more people will not only access surplus supermarket food, but also share any surplus foods they have with the community. A huge thanks to the library for supporting the community fridge and allowing us to have space in the library. If you would like to support the community fridge we are looking for funding for the fridge and freezer and the electricity costs to run it. If you are a local food business who may have surplus food we can help to reduce your food waste. If you feel you can help with any of these please get in touch watercressqueen1@ gmail.com” Are You Facing Hardship This Winter? Are you concerned that you may struggle to heat your home in the colder months? e Dibden Allotments Fund (DAF) is a local charity providing support to individuals and organisations living in the Parishes of Fawley, Hythe and Dibden and Marchwood. Contrary to the myth, DAF does not donate the spoils from allotments, but they do o er nancial help, food vouchers, shoe vouchers and even have a gardening scheme, for eligible residents. To apply for support, please go to www. daf-hythe.org.uk for online applications, or pick up a form from the o ce at Drummond Court (opposite the Hythe Pier entrance).
