Barry was husband to Janis, father to three girls (Anne-Marie, Helen and Heather), and grandfather to 5 children (Zen, Jaz, Daisy, Jake and Arabella). Many people will remember Barry for his amazing passion for his small holding Barry’s Farm on Frost Lane, where for 51 years he has provided homes and cared for many animals and bought so much joy to the local community. Over the years the farm was under threat by the council multiple times as they threatened to develop the land but he fought to keep it going for the community and the bene t it provided. As well as rescuing and caring for his menagerie of animals Barry was by occupation a Painter and decorator. He also served 24 years as a retained reman at Hythe Fire Station, which would not be operational if it was not for his determination and commitment to ght for its survival. Many may not know that Barry also started the wonderful tradition of the Christmas Fire Engine driving through the neighbourhoods playing tunes for charity and bringing joy to everyone on their door step. Barry was a community evangelist and celebrated local hero, earlier this year Barry was presented with the 2022 Hythe and Dibden Parish Council’s Community Spirit Award, a token of thanks and appreciation from the local community for the joy Barry’s Farm has provided over the years. Barry’s funeral took place on 6th October at Test Valley Crematorium in Romsey; oral tributes included a beautiful arrangement depicting a donkey. Barry’s legacy will continue at the farm with his family and a group of committed volunteers taking the reins and caring for the animals with the recent addition of Harry the donkey, chickens Primrose and Pumpkin and Indian Runner ducks Mama, Flu y and Bull Rush. Cards on Sale for Barry’s Farm Barry Bevis One of the floral tributes to Barry Bevis Local artist Christine Jones has painted two beautiful greetings card to raise money for Barry’s Farm on Frost Lane in Hythe. One of the cards depicts donkeys Toby and Jacob cuddled together at the fence. e card is now on sale at e Herald o ce for £2 along with Christine’s original card featuring all the animals from the farm, proceeds from the cards will go towards food and care for the animals.
