Page 76 • The HERALD • 27th October 2022 v SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE HERALD v SPORT IN THE HERALD BRAMSHOTT HILL SENIORS Monday 3rd October - the Autumn weather has now established itself and summer heat and sun are distant memories. is did not deter 36 Bramshott Hill Seniors from taking to the course for a Stableford Quali er competition. e conditions were fair and the course is in good condition even though Hollow Tining has now started on the greens. e upkeep of the course has to proceed no matter what games are being played and the green keepers have to get Hollow Tining done before the winter sets in to keep the greens in top condition. e scores were slightly down on recent weeks due to the weather and course maintenance. However some good scores were still achieved and the results are as follows: Division 1: 1st Paul Wastell 37 pts, 2nd Aide Mitchell 34pts, 3rd Stuart Bulbrooke 32pts (countback); Division 2: 1st Ron Gooding 37pts, 2nd John Manning 36pts, 3rd Gerry Murphy 35pts; Division 3: 1st Richard Short 41pts, 2nd Paul Baker 37pts, 3rd Hugh Rowan 34pts (countback). On Wednesday 5th October Bramshott Hill Seniors attended the New Forest Golf Club for a return match. A Truly Exceptional Fawley RFC Weekend Saturday 8th October saw the Fawley Centaurs take to the eld at Newlands Park for the rst time. e Centaurs embodied everything their club is about with former players donning the club colours training session culminated in a series of mini-matches between the two clubs at U16, U14 and U12. ere was even a nale game of touch so the ultra competitive Sparklers could get involved. Every player le smiling and every parent proud. NMRFC were hugely complimentary towards the players behaviour and combined skill set. NMRFC edged match tournament two games to one with the last game a draw. at said - all games were close run with multiple tries scored in each. Solid rugby friendships were formed with rm plans going forward. Already xed a date for a rematch and the management are looking to combining the clubs to play on the circuit. Well done all. e rest of the age grades enjoyed training sessions at home and it was fantastic to see an ever growing junior section with even more new players joining. Fawley RFC are always keen to hear from new players, as a club that o ers rugby to every member of the Waterside community from age 5 to 65 (and older) through minis, juniors, teenage, seniors, social and walking rugby there is a place for everyone. If you feel that your playing days are behind you, they still have the opportunity for you to keep your boots on through coaching, refereeing or through volunteer admin roles. On the footprint of their new clubhouse members of the Life VicePresidents, Executive, Walking Rugby and volunteers arranged some fantastic matchday hospitality to give supporters the experience they will get to enjoy when their club house is built. A 31-32 certainly felt like a de facto win for the Centaurs, and with a prop nailing a conversion (Lee Dack), they can certainly say rugby was the real winner. A club seniors social was certainly enjoyed by all a erwards. e next day the under 14’s travelled to Gosport and Fareham where they succumbed to a very strong opposition. e lads travelled with only 16 players due to a high number of injuries but put on a display of rugby that impressed the opposition supporters and coaches. ey’ll be looking forward to seeing the 14’s at home where the whole club will be out supporting them. e Fawley Flames (Girls) travelled to New Milton, also on Sunday 16th for a combined training event. It was a huge success - an almost even split in numbers saw around 40 girls take the eld. A very physical Previously Bramshott Hill had won the home match at Dibden by four games to two. Hopes were high to complete the double and win this away leg. However, the weather gremlins that had been very kind to them for most of the year decided to turn on some atrocious conditions. High winds and rain greeted the players as they took to the course. e game went ahead and the weather nally abated later in the day with the nal 8 or 9 holes played in the dry. Following the match, the usual friendly banter and jokes followed a delicious meal in the club house. New Forest won the match four games to two and therefore over two legs honours were shared. is was Bramshott’s nal match this season and battle will commence again next year. Nearest the Pin winners: A Turnpenny (4th) J Stoker (11th) and Jo Renyard (17th). 4th October: e DOGS played a monthly 18 hole stableford competition, played in overcast but nice and friendly weather conditions on the Dibden 18 hole course. With eleven scoring under 70, competition was intense. In division 1 Hugh Marchant emerged one stroke ahead of his nearest rival with a steady 4 under par nett 65. However division 2’s John Ireland’s back 9 nett score of 25 (9 under par) helped him win the trophy with nett 63. Division 1: 1st Hugh Marchant – 65 SAM MATES TROPHY nett, 2nd Jim Worsley – 66 nett, 3rd Steve Duckett – 67 nett.
