Originally commissioned to mark the Platinum Jubilee, in recognition of e Queen’s 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth, as well as e Queen’s connections to Test Valley, the statue will now also stand as a lasting tribute in memory of the country’s longest serving monarch following her death in September. e bronze sculpture featuring Her Majesty has been designed by the artist of the spectacular Romsey War Horse, Amy Goodman and is one of two sculptures commissioned by Test Valley Council with a ‘sister’ sculpture to be installed in Andover. e Romsey statue will show Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation, with the sculpture in Andover depicting her later in life. Subject to securing the relevant permissions Test Valley Council are hoping that the statue in Romsey will be installed outside the Abbey in late summer next year and the Andover statue is expected to be located at Vigo Recreation Ground in the autumn.
