Helen is also author of e Knackered Mother’s Wine Club, an award-winning wine blog and best-selling wine book. Her wine journey began as a supermarket wine buyer, spending almost a decade sourcing wines around the world. She is now an International Wine Judge and drinks writer for Waitrose Food and the Daily Mail Femail magazine, among others. Helen has also branched out into ction writing and her third novel This Is Us has just been published. Helen was hugely entertaining as well as informative as she introduced the 120 guests to a selection of tasting wines from around the globe, supplied for the evening by Andrew Niven of Marchwood based Waterside A er sampling the wines, guests were able to purchase their favourites to enjoy with a plentiful supper of pâté and cheeses. e evening, which included a well-supported ra e, raised over £2,000 to further the work of Beaulieu Abbey Church, helping to maintain its historic church building and support its ministry in the parish. Left to Right: Helen McGinn, Andrew Niven and Jan Hoy (Event Organiser) Fawley Parish Council recently entered the Hampshire Association of Local Councils Village of the Year 2022 competition and is thrilled to receive awards in two di erent categories as well as their nomination for the Inspiring Places category winning too! Cllr Allan Glass, Chairman of Estates and Facilities Committee said: “The sensory garden at the front of Jubilee Hall has won Best Open Space; this is a wonderful community space that was funded by a £2,000 contribution from ExxonMobil Fawley. I hope that people can pop by and see how lovely it is.” Cllr Alan Alvey, Chairman of Council is delighted that the very low cost, but fantastic Armed Forces Day event was runner up in the Best Community Event Competition. “This is the ninth year that the Council have provided this free to attend event that is well supported by the community. I am proud of our Council for recognising the work of our Armed Forces and we are already planning for Armed Forces Day 2023” The Parish Council nominated Copthorne Nursery in Fawley as an Inspiring Place for the work they undertake there; all the plants used in the Parish come from the nursery. Cllr Alvey said: “It feels so right that the council and the nursery work together to create some wonderful flower displays.
