A so er carpet I’ve never known. Colours so rich and rare. Watching them tumble silently, Leaving the trees so bare. Floating, glistening, falling, Creating vibrant pools. e autumn in all her splendour, A beautiful sea of jewels. Now Wilfred, the golden pheasant, lived just up the road e farm with his feathered friends was his happy abode. In prominent vibrant colours, he strutted all about Con dent in his stride, displaying his pheasant clout! He had his likes and dislikes, this was plain to all Pecking at the dog walkers, dogs too, large and small. Sometimes he just disliked you and gave a warning peck It was just his pheasant way of keeping you in check! He had a gentle side and if you had the time He’d chat away in pheasant talk, that o en was in rhyme! ‘Twas good to see such beauty, though just for a short while Orange and blue, red and green, in golden pheasant style. Sitting on park bench fingers all blue. Laddered old grey stockings dress all torn. Wrinkled white face looking forlorn. Breakfast this morning tea and stale bread, Nothing tomorrow fills her with dread. Goes to the market what’s to be found, Some grapes an apple trod in the ground. Wearily home to ground floor damp room, No money for lights sits in the gloom. Gas fire went out early this morn, Gets into bed so tired and so worn. Lies neath a blanket stirs in her sleep, Watches and waits for dawning to peep. Tries to get up and reach for the door, Legs are too weak she falls to the floor. Dear old lady your time has come now, Laid in your coffin no heads there to bow. You look so peaceful with a faint smile, You are going to heaven in just a while. TOO OLD TO CARE FOR by Jim Dolbear Life without you, Is like a pencil with no lead. A pen with no ink, A body with no head. It’s like a bird with no song, A sea with no tide. A game of hide and seek With nowhere to hide.
