Amelia Ashton, the Lieutenant of Hampshire nominated e Honeypot Children’s Charity, to receive one of the trees, which was part of the sculpture, that stood tall outside Buckingham Palace during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations earlier this year. The living sculpture, designed by Thomas Heatherwick, sought to put the importance of trees at the heart of the historic milestone to celebrate Her Majesty, who planted over 1,500 trees all over the world during her 70-year reign. e trees are now being planted in honour of the late Queen, creating a living legacy around the UK through e Queen’s Green Canopy. On 10th November one of the trees was planted at the Honeypot Children’s Charity’s Honeypot House, by the Lieutenant of Hampshire, Amelia Ashton and Nagindra Chungh, Director of Operations at the Honeypot Children’s Charity. Nagindra was a headteacher for 25 years and believes every child should aim high and have the opportunity to succeed and y in anything they do. e tree takes pride of place by the astroturf where the children play basketball and race on go karts. Simmi Woodwal, CEO Honeypot Children’s Charity comments: “We are so honoured to be chosen for the Queen’s Green Canopy, to commemorate the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II onsite, in our grounds in the beautiful New Forest. Plus, to show the importance of protecting the forests for future generations.” Since 1996 Honeypot has been working to enhance the lives of young carers aged 5-12 years by providing respite breaks and on-going outreach support. ey give young carers a break from demanding and stressful responsibilities at home and provide a safe, nurturing environment where children at risk can develop their full potential.
