For the past two years this event could not take place because of Covid restrictions. However, this year the event was able to take place with refreshments too as the restrictions were li ed just two weeks before the exhibition date in March. is was one of the rst exhibitions to be held in 2022 and a record number of visitors attended. is enabled the Society to make substantial donations to local charities. In November representatives from the Romsey First Responders and Romsey Food Bank were presented with cheques for £500 each, additionally a similar amount was donated to Jane Scarth House, the Romsey Cancer Support Centre. e First Responders gave a talk and demonstrations on how to help a person who is choking and also a patient who has su ered a fall. e Society’s donation will assist them in purchasing Paediatric Pulse and Oximeters for use with children and slip sheets used to help patients who have fallen. e representative from Romsey Food Bank explained that the Society’s donation will go towards heating and supplying lunch for the community in their recently opened welcome space at the Freedom Centre. Additionally, general help with the upkeep of food as the demand rises over the winter period. e Society’s next exhibition is on the 4th and 5th March 2023. On Saturday 12th November 2 members of Hythe and Waterside Rotary drove to the distribution depot at Hurn with locally collected Shoeboxes, ready for shipping out to children in Eastern Europe. Almost 250 boxes were collected locally this year, and thanks go to Hythe Primary School, Waterside Primary School, Dibden Purlieu Scout Troop & Girl Guides as well as the residents at Homeborough House for their contributions. Hythe &Waterside Rotary are very grateful to both Meadens of Hythe for the use of the van and to Elliott Hire in Marchwood for use of their storage facilities again this year. The Rotary Shoebox appeal has been operating for over 25 years and has delivered over one million boxes. It is a registered, not for pro t charity with no paid employees.
