FESTIVE FOOD & DRINK KEEPING CHRISTMAS LOCAL AT LONGDOWN FARM SHOP from Longdown Farm Shop We are proud to carry an abundance of delicious locally sourced produce in e Longdown Farm Shop, and even more so at this time of year when ne-quality food takes on a special signi cance and becomes central to the celebrations. e choice and range of the nest local produce is displayed in the shop and includes staples such as free-range turkey, venison, game, potatoes, vegetables and fruit, and dairy, along with goodies such as award-winning cheeses from Lyburn Cheese, mince pies, Christmas puddings and Yule logs from e Cottage Loaf, chocolates from Beaulieu, chutneys and sauces from the Isle of Wight, and fruity jams and marmalades produced in Minstead. ere is so much more on o er - we are truly blessed to enjoy such a breadth of quality food sourced from so nearby in the New Forest and Hampshire. As always, our turkeys are sourced from Paul Tanner’s pheasant, and ducks readily available. Our friends at Newhouse Venison have created their seasonal special: a 3-bird roast - a popular alternative for a Christmas lunch, which will need to be ordered in advance. Leading up to Christmas there’ll be a selection of Farm Shop hampers on display, and available to order. ey are an ideal gi for friends, family, or business contacts. You can choose from a wide selection, with sizes and prices to suit everyone. e everpopular Honey Hamper, and Garlic Farm Hamper are available and ready to buy o the shelf, alternatively we can make hampers to your own speci c requirements and budget, including fruit baskets in various sizes. Two days’ notice is required for the bespoke hampers. e Farm Shop will be open until 1pm on Christmas Eve for collections and any last-minute essentials. Locally sourced venison is at its best right now, and if game is on your menu, we have partridge, ORANGE & AMARETTI TRIFLES Recipe from I Love Fruit & Veg from Europe Prep: 20 minutes plus setting • Cook: 1-2 minutes • Serves 4 approx. 300ml, top up to 400ml with water. Soak the gelatine in cold water for 5 minutes. Place orange juice in a small saucepan with the sugar and bring to just below boiling, remove the gelatine from the water and add to the pan, stir until dissolved, stir in 2/3 of the zest. Pour into 4 glasses and allow to cool, chill in the fridge until set. Crumble all but 3 amaretti biscuits into the custard and spoon over the jelly. Whisk the mascarpone, cream and half the remaining zest until so peaks and spoon on top of the custard. Garnish with remaining zest and crumbled amaretti biscuits. Cooks tip Replace the Amaretti 5-6 blood oranges 4 sheets leaf gelatine (7g) 75g caster sugar 400g can custard 50g Amaretti biscuits 100g mascarpone 100ml double cream Method: Zest 3 oranges and set aside. Juice all the oranges to give biscuits with crushed ginger nuts.
