When most of us were enjoying the summer sun and not even thinking about Christmas, a team of mechanical Elves started work on checking the engine to make sure it is t and healthy to cover the many miles across the Waterside this Christmas and Badmintons completed the MOT free of charge. In October, the re engine was expertly cleaned and spruced up by a team of re ghters at Hythe Fire Station and a recruitment event took place to enlist extra Elves to join the Waterside Christmas Fire Engine on its rounds this year collecting money for charity. Edging closer to this year’s unveiling the Waterside Christmas Fire Engine was given a bit of a faceli with new banners thanks to GRS Fleet Graphics Ltd who supplied and tted the new vinyl free of charge. ey have also received generous donations from local councillors, Waterside Women and a local lady who donated £100 to keep the engine on the road. ExxonMobil have recently made a generous donation to the Waterside Christmas Fire Engine and have also supplied selection boxes for the Elves to hand out to children on their rounds. Chief Elf and owner of the Fire Engine, Pat Canning comments: “We are very grateful to everyone who has donated their time and money to help us to get the Fire Engine ready in time to do our rounds this year. We would like to thank ExxonMobil Fawley for its very generous donation which will help us buy a replacement generator to power the lights and music on the Fire Engine. We are sure the Waterside children will also be delighted with their selection boxes which were also part of the donation.” In the run up to Christmas the Waterside Fire Engine will be attending lots of local events and Father Christmas will be travelling around the Waterside in the Fire Engine so listen out for the sirens and Christmas music! Last year the Waterside Christmas Fire Engine raised an amazing £8405.82, with the donations shared between local charities and organisations: Waterside Food Bank, Street Angels, Solent Dolphin (Alison Mc Gregor), National Coast watch (Lepe), Hythe Shed at the Pier, New Forest Guide Dogs for the Blind, Warren Copse, Healthy Haven Garden and Holbury Manor Group.
