Pupils from Orchard Infants, Orchard Juniors, Hythe Primary, Wildground Primary and Waterside Primary all came together on what was a very soggy day to compete. Over 80 children participated in the 4 races and despite the weather, it was a great success. Parents from Orchard’s PTFA volunteered to provide refreshments and kept spectators toasty with hot drinks and squash for the young athletes. Orchard’s Sports Coach and organiser of the event Josh Ramsey said: “The aim of the event was to bring our local Waterside schools together through sport; offering more opportunities for primary school children in our area to participate in sporting events/competition; to help promote healthy, active lives; build confidence and resilience; and to develop socially and emotionally through sporting experiences.” Together the schools hope to work alongside each other in future events to further secure the links between the schools in the Waterside area.
