Drawing closer every day The day of rest not far away Lighting up the local scene The Waterside a living dream A Christmas postcard dream comes true Bells ring out they call to you Carols at Christmas let them be For peace love and tranquillity Relax now sip a glass of wine Let the spirit inside you shine Hereabouts is where we’ll be God’s people all in harmony Hark the bells on Christmas ‘morn Remembering the Christ child born In a stable far away That very first Christmas day Christmas lights along the street Windows dressed so smart and neat Christmas trees like soldiers stand The Waterside is looking grand The Christmas Tree Fairy by Dorothy Lockyer I only appear for a short time once a year A time of excitement and mainly good cheer! But most of my life I’m shut away in the dark In a box, in a lo , which is lonely and stark. Deep winter’s come, I’m feeling a stirring within I’m leaving the lo , brought into the light, made trim. In the warmth and glow of the re, the Spruce tree stands tall Adorned with tinsel and baubles just to enthral. Now this is the moment I come into my own Sparkling dress, wand in hand, I set the tone As I’m li ed high and set upon the crown, beware Watch those spines of the Spruce upon my derriere! A joyous scene upon which I’m le to gaze Twinkling lights, crackers, the latest gizmo craze Food in abundance, bottles of wine, red and white Chocs, sweets, nuts and raisins, taste buds to delight. I look around the room, there on a shelf barely seen A silhouette depicting a nativity scene e unwrapped gi pushed away to one side e true meaning of Christmas, forgotten, denied. JOURNEYS END by Jim Dolbear ere was no room at the inn, Mary was looking forlorn. For baby Jesus was soon to be born. She was led to a stable By ickering candle light. With straw for a bed on a cold Winters night. en out of the night sky Appeared a bright shining star, To guide three wise men that came from afar. Shepherds came down from the hills To kneel at the babies feet. As angels sang above the new born to greet. Now as little children sleep Dreaming on their Christmas Eve. We pray for peace and that we still believe. Christmas by Jim Dolbear Carol singing by lantern light they softly sing Silent Night. Holly is hanging from the door it’s the time of year once more. Relations will call with goodwill warmer clothes keep out the chill. Inside we shelter from the breeze tinsel will decorate trees. Santa will soon be on his way children wait for Christmas day. Their stockings there still to fill to give little ones a thrill. Mulled wine we pour and give a toast to the ones we love the most. And resolutions we will make then sing out for Auld Lang Sake. Sadly there’ll be an empty chair alas we wish that they were there Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at The Herald Unchanging Miracle by David K Wilson Blue lights on standby To whisk you away Off to maternity The birth due today Everything’s ready The midwife is there And the doctor’s on call Should you need extra care Your baby’s delivered Everything’s fine It’s a boy so much wanted His arrival on time Dad will take time off You’ll rest and grow strong With your own little family You’ve planned all along Another mum another baby Another time another day The baby wanted badly His birth far away But no blue lights or midwife No clean sheets or bed Just a hay bale for a mattress In an old stable shed That mother was Mary Her son we all know His cot was a manger Still Mary’s heart glowed Passing years change all things Time slips away But the miracle of a baby Is unchanged to this day Do You Want to Say No by Margaret Bell Do you want to say No, but end up saying Yes! Do you really wish that you couldn’t care-less, It’s so hard to change the way you are… When everyone tells you, you’re such a star! If you said No! the world won’t stop, And if you said No, the sky won’t drop, Have you said Yes, but meant to stay No! Don’t worry the No word soon will ow… Always say Yes if that’s what you really want, And always say No if you really can’t, It’s that gut feeling that speaks the word, It’s up to you to make sure it’s heard! You are never going to let anyone down, You’re in charge of your words so wear that crown! People will realise you can’t always please.. Eventually either word will come with ease… Send in your poems by post: 2 High Street, Hythe, Southampton SO45 6AH or by email: editor@herald-publishing.co.uk
