Conducted by Dawn Hall and accompanied by Rose Butler, the choir performed a very popular and mixed selection of numbers with the second half devoted to Christmas music. is was well received and appreciated by a large audience almost lling St John’s Church, Hythe to capacity. ere were beautiful solo numbers by Mike Pavitt and Ann-Marie Sait as well as a duet by Dawn and Mike, together with Christmas readings. Surrounded by the decorated trees in the church for the Christmas Tree Festival and with mulled wine kindly donated by Tesco, together with mince pies and a big ra e, the atmosphere was perfect and everyone enjoyed a lovely, festive start to Christmas celebrations. As a result the choir were delighted to be able to donate £470 to Ben Pavitt’s Legacy of Love Fund to support research into childhood cancer, so many thanks to those who supported the concert. e choir will now begin to rehearse for a concert in the summer, so keep a look out for details of that later in the year. ey rehearse on Wednesday nights from New Forest Sounds Ladies with their conductor Dawn Hall and Mike Pavitt 7.30pm to 9pm in Fawley Methodist Church and new members will be given a very friendly welcome. For further information please contact them on Facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/1264110944094429 Carols on the Marina three hundred people from enjoying the annual Hythe Marina Carols. e ever-popular New Forest Brass Band led residents and members of the public in the hearty singing of many favourite carols in the Marina Square, enhanced by the Beaulieu Warblers, the Marina Singers and the stars of the evening, the children of Hythe Primary School Choir, who stole the show. The evening was in support of the locally based Honeypot Children’s charity that gives respite and support for children aged 5 to 12 who are full-time young carers. A collection at the event raised £670 for the charity. A very enjoyable evening concluded with mulled wine generously provided by the marina’s Boathouse Hotel and restaurant. e evening of Friday 16th December was one of the coldest of the winter, but it didn’t deter over Carols on the Marina Lyndhurst and District U3A Lyndhurst and District U3A meet on the second Wednesday of the month, not in August, in Lyndhurst Community Centre. You are welcome to go along to see if you’d like to join them. Doors open at 2pm for a 2.30pm start. ere is a £2 entrance fee for nonmembers.
