Lyndhurst Drama and Musical Society have been busy rehearsing ready to take to the stage for this year’s panto ‘Flute’. e family pantomime which has been co-written by one of their members, Richard Barnett, is about a dog called Flute and his adventures to rescue his master, Danny, the king’s toymaker. Danny has been imprisoned by the wicked Baron Von Blitzen who came to power a er the mysterious disappearance of the king. Time is against Flute. If he cannot rescue Danny in 24 hours, the Baron will marry the king’s daughter, Princess Vashmi, and proclaim himself King. If that happens, then the whole land will be plunged into misery because the Baron is only at his happiest when everyone around him is miserable. Anyone caught smiling, smirking, or playing with toys is arrested. e Baron especially hates children! Flute and Danny’s housekeeper, Gladys, manage to escape being arrested by the wicked Baron by jumping down the village wishing well, but the Baron cuts the rope leaving them both stranded. However, being a wishing well, it has magical powers which Flute and Gladys make full use of. But things are not straightforward and they are met by nasty magical creatures lurking in the underground passages. Do they escape from the wishing well, and do they save Danny and stop the Baron from coming to power? Well, of course they do it’s a pantomime with a happy ending and lots of laughs along the way. e panto has kindly been sponsored by e Stag Hotel, Lyndhurst and is on at e Vernon eatre, Sandy Lane, Lyndhurst, SO43 7DN, with performances taking place on Saturday 28th January at 6pm, Sunday 29th January at 2.30pm, Saturday 4th February at 6pm and Sunday 5th February at 2.30pm.
