Page 16 • The HERALD • 26th January 2023 v SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE HERALD v Waterside Network Group: Member Focus by Simon Chadwick is issue I’d like to introduce you to one of the group’s longeststanding members – Don Rose. Don is an ex-employee of BT and o ers his services as a telephone engineer. Since Don le BT, the way in which home phones operate has changed considerably, and there are signi cant further changes to come, but, for now, what Don does hasn’t changed. Don can help you with the wired elements of your home phones. Whether that’s moving the master socket so it’s closer to a power source, or providing an extension to another room, these small improvements can make a big di erence. Equally, damaged lines are another Don specialism. Gardening accidents with over-enthusiastic pruning, decorating mishaps, or even having replacement windows can all cause damage to a phone line. Don’s top tip if you are having work done is to get him in early – that way he may be able to hide the cable for a better nish. Noisy lines are many a household’s bugbear, and getting it solved is timeconsuming and frustrating. e key is to prove that the problem is out in the network, not in your home, and that’s something Don can help isolate. Once you know it’s a network problem Don can supply you with a short script for when you talk to your phone supplier to ensure the correct action is taken and the problem swi ly sorted. When it comes to broadband, Wi-Fi, and mobile phone issues, these tend to be beyond Don’s skills, but for general landline issues then Don’s your man. So, if you’ve got a faulty line, need to move a socket or extend your landline’s reach further into your home, contact Don Rose at the contact details opposite. He’ll be happy to help.
