Last held in 2018, the event was cancelled in 2019 on account of atrocious weather and fell victim to the pandemic restrictions in 2020 and 2021. Planning is at an early stage, but it is hoped to have static and video displays of the long history of the Hythe Pier and Ferry. e volunteers from the Shed (at the Pier) will also be involved and will be on hand to talk about and show their contribution to the restoration of the Hythe Pier train carriages. Whilst the event will be centred at and along the pier, it is hoped to include other points around the village. James Percy of the General Estates Company, the former owners of the Hythe Ferry, has agreed to loan the ship’s wheel and bell from Hotspur III, which will be part of Forty-one mums were treated to a free ride on the Hythe Ferry on Mother’s Day. Blue Funnel Ferries sta made the day even more special with a gi bag including a cuddly teddy and decorating the pier train carriages specially for the occasion. Ferry Company spokesperson Kathy May said, “It was wonderful to see mothers with their families enjoying their special day. They all came back happy and grateful for their trip and gifts.” Mum Emma Hornacekova loved her day out, saying “It was a lovely day with a beautiful gift”.
