Bramshott Hill Seniors Results Sadly, the game on the 13th March was called o due to heavy rain overnight reducing the course to ‘carry-only’. As several of the Seniors are of an age where carrying clubs and not using trolleys is not an option the game was cancelled. However, on a brighter note, the Seniors were booked to play their rst interclub match away to Burley on ursday 16th March. Again, the weather forecast looked awful, but their new Captain for 2023 (Mike Wells) was determined to go ahead with the game. Having twisted some arms and sent out some heart felt pleas he managed to get a team together. ursday arrived and the weather gremlins decided to be kind to them. e forecast was inaccurate and they set o in dry weather. All teams completed the game in the dry and rain arrived shortly a er they nished. An excellent time was had by all even though Bramshott Hill lost the match. A er a superb meal in the club house at Burley the result was not important. e company, comradery and story telling made the day very worthwhile. Not having many other clubs to play against, in 2022 the club decided to obtain a liation to the Hampshire County Short Mat Bowls Association and the English Short Mat Bowling Association. In September they won a 3rd place playo to play in the National Qualifying Mixed Fours and were selected to play in the National Mixed Fours nals on 25th February at Solihull Indoor Bowls Club! At the National Mixed Fours nals there were 12 groups with 4 teams in each group. e matches were played over 18 Short Mat Bowls Mats within the Indoor Bowls Club. Waterside were drawn against the top teams from Cornwall and Herefordshire and a 3rd place team from North Yorkshire. ey were beaten by the top two teams and managed a draw against the North Yorkshire Team. It was a great experience for the members playing against other teams and nice for them to talk to di erent players of varying standards. It was said that Hampshire is a tough county to beat so Waterside did something good! ey didn’t come home with any silverware but did gain a lot of experience. Another rst for over three years, on 12th March, Waterside SMBC arranged its long standing competition against North Victoria SMBC from the Isle of Wight. is rivalry match has been played since the mid 90’s playing home or away each year. is time Waterside manged to retain the Gordon Beere Shield winning 99 shots to 85 shots. A er the match there was tea and a bit of cake, a lovey spread was laid on by the Ladies of Waterside and then the presentation. North Victoria said they had a smashing day and looking forward to next year’s return match. e club opens: Monday 2pm to 4pm Roll Up; Wednesday 10am to 12noon Roll Up and Friday 7pm to 9pm Roll Up in the summer and in-house league in the winter.
