Shazfest will be a one day fun day with live music on the day from the Goodnight Sweethearts, the Trav Cats, Hinterland & Ultra as well as a karaoke. ere will also be stalls and food. Organised by Jill Masterman in memory of her best friend, who sadly passed away from oesophageal cancer, all the proceeds from Shazfest will go to Cancer Research UK. Jill has chosen the 13th May to coincide with what would have been Shaz’s 53rd Birthday. Plant Sale in Holbury e Waterside Catholic Parish will be holding their annual Plant Sale and Spring Fair on Saturday 13th May from 10am to 12noon at St Bernard’s Church Hall, Holbury. ere will be plants for sale together with many other stalls, such as jigsaws, puzzles, books, tombola, cra , bric-a-brac and much more. General Site Maintenance Day at Tadburn Meadows TadburnMeadows Local Nature Reserve, located in Romsey (SU367214) will be holding a General Site Maintenance Day on Saturday 13th May from 10am until 12noon, meet at the entrance to the reserve at Eight Acres. Tadburn Meadows Local Nature Reserve is hidden amongst the houses and covers almost 12 acres and provides a home for a variety of Britain’s best loved wildlife and some nationally threatened species. e site boasts a variety of habitats, from a stream more characteristic of the New Forest to wet woodland and grassland. Tadburn Conservation Volunteers are a local group working on Tadburn Meadows Local Nature Reserve, Romsey. Contact: tadburn.meadows@gmail.com Voices of Swing with The Down for the Count Orchestra One of the UK’s top swing orchestras is coming to the Turner Simms this Spring. e critically acclaimed 30-piece Down for the Count Orchestra, conducted by Mike Paul-Smith, has recently been making waves on the UK jazz scene with their warm, engaging and energetic performances. One of the few UK swing ensembles to perform with a string section, Down for the Count’s show features recreations of Capitol Studios recordings from Frank Sinatra, Nat ‘King’ Cole and Ella Fitzgerald, alongside rarely heard British dance band music written by the grandfather of orchestra member Rose Hinton. Audiences will also be treated to transcriptions from the Charlie Parker with Strings albums and many more jazz and swing classics. Down for the Count are playing two performances at Turner Simms, (University of Southampton, 52 Salisbury Road, Southampton SO17 1BJ) on Sunday 14th May at 2.30pm and 7pm.
