Although property fraud comes in several di erent ways, one type arises when fraudsters pose as homeowners and sell a property which doesn’t belong to them and then keep the proceeds and disappear, leaving the homeowner with no house and no money. Properties which are vacant, tenanted or which are mortgage-free are particularly vulnerable. e Land Registry Property Alert Service enables you to register your email address against your property. Should any third party attempt to access Land Registry information e.g. download O cial Copies of the Register (which are needed for a sale or mortgage), you receive an email alert to notify you of the access, plus details of the rm which applied for it. If you were not in the process of selling or mortgaging your property, that email alert puts you on notice that a property dealing might be underway and enables you to contact the Conveyancers who made the application to clarify why they are accessing the Land Registry information. e property must be in England or Wales for the service to be used, and it must be registered at the Land Registry. e vast majority of properties are now registered. e service is free and runs inde nitely once you have been registered. A er the huge success of last year’s event, which saw top industry leaders and businesses gather to celebrate their hard work and dedication, MUK Solent Chair Anne-Marie Mounti eld was proud to announce the formal launch of the MUK Solent Awards for 2023 on Tuesday 2nd May at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. Anne-Marie will be inviting businesses and leaders working in the maritime sector to take part in this year’s MUK Solent awards event. We welcome entries from Solent based maritime businesses and those working in the sector to take part in these awards, which will showcase the very best of our thriving maritime industry here in the Solent region.” Chris Scrutton, Managing Director of Vulcan O shore, who won last year’s Start-up of the Year award, and Andy Page, Managing Director of Chartwell Marine, who won Business of the Year and International Trade awards, will be in attendance talking about the event and the recognition they received. In addition to celebrating maritime excellence, the awards aim to make a di erence by supporting local charities. e launch event will be attended by Geo Holt MBE DL, founder of Wetwheels, the MUK Solent charity partner for 2022. He will re ect on the support and awareness raised from taking part in the event and MUK Solent will also announce that it is seeking a new charity partner for 2023. e MUK Solent awards will be open for applications until 5th June with the winners to be announced at a ceremony on ursday 5th October at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Charities can apply to become the charity partner and potential sponsors are welcomed to support the awards.
