Winner: G O’Connor (22) 2nd: C Waters (21 C/B) 3rd: E Nkomo (21 C/B). 4th: C Viney (20 C/B) and 5th: J Stoker (20 C/B). 2’s competition winner: T O’Connor. Nearest the pin winners: P Mortimer (2nd) J Manning (4th) and U Symes (11th). 11th April the DOGS played a Bowmaker Competition plus the usual competitions on the 18 hole course. Winning team: C Peall, E Nkomo & R Gooding (79) 2nd: B Dash, T Oliver & D Wilson (77) 3rd: R Hallett, K Maton & C Ellis (73). 2’s competition winner: C Ellis. Pro’s Approach: C Peall (15th). Highest stableford score with 34 points: Clive Ellis. 4th April winners: G O’Connor, C Waters, E Nkomo, C Viney & J Stoker 11th April winners: E Nkomo, C Peall & R Gooding 18th April winners: B Cox, P Mortimer & G O’Connor On Tuesday 4th April - a beautifully sunny day but with a chill in the air, 32 New Forest Golf Club Seniors competed in this strokeplay competition o the blue tees. It was a close fought nish for the Division 1 medal with Ivor Griffiths pipping Steve Duckett to the post by just 1 stroke on countback. In Division 2 however, Phil Kilburn’s nett 62 was fully 9 shots ahead of his nearest rivals. Division 1: 1st Ivor Griffiths – nett 65 (back 9 nett 31), 2nd Steve Duckett – nett 65 (back 9 nett 32), 3rd Ross Matthews – nett 69 (back 9 nett 33) (Commiserations to Richard Hammond also with nett 69 but back 9 score of nett 37). Division 2: 1st Phil Kilburn – nett 62, 2nd Mike Stevenson – nett 71 (back 9 nett 36), 3rd Graham Fearis – nett 71 (back 9 nett 41). Medal winners Ivor Griffiths and Phil Kilburn ursday 6th April saw a team of twelve players from Bramshott Hill travel to Portsmouth for an inter club match. Although the weather forecast was poor the day arrived bright and sunny. Portsmouth Golf Course is located on top of Portsdown Hill with some amazing views in all directions. is match was the rst to be played between the two clubs as the xture was added to the calendar earlier this year. is xture resulted from a team from Portsmouth attending the Bramshott Hill Seniors Open last year. ey were so impressed by the course and organisation of the day (Thanks to the efforts of Ray Dunkason) that they asked if it could be arranged to have inter club matches added to the calendar, hence the match on ursday 6th April. ey only played fourteen holes as four were closed due to the recent weather. Sadly, Bramshott Hill lost the match, one and a half games to four and a half games. Portsmouth will play the return match at Dibden in June when Bramshott Hill intend to even the score. A er the match Portsmouth asked if the club could revisit for another match as they would like team members to enjoy playing the whole course. is is in the stages of being organised. is new arrangement was as a result of one team from Portsmouth attending the Seniors Open last year and being impressed with the day. is year the Seniors Open will take place in July and Portsmouth have entered ve teams. ey look forward to hosting them again and enjoying another great day of golf and a new found friendship. As the weather continues to play havoc with their Monday morning golf competitions due to the course being restricted or even closed due to the persistent rain, they are still able to play their away inter club matches. Hopefully with the forecast improving they will soon be hosting clubs at their own course. Bramshott Hill and Portsmouth enjoying dinner together Bramshott Seniors team at Paultons On ursday 13th April a Seniors team travelled to Paultons golf course for an away match against Paultons Seniors. e weather was mixed with showers predicted. A er some confusion over tee times, they nally teed o at about 11.45am. e conditions were good a er the recent rain and the greens were playing well. A er about an hour the heavens opened and a very heavy hail storm engulfed them. Luckily this was short lived and play soon continued. Following this storm putting through ice on the next green was di cult. Happily, the ice quickly melted and play resumed as normal. e weather from then on didn’t cause them any concern and the course was completed by all players. Sadly, Bramshott Hill once again came second, losing the match four game to two. ere followed a very pleasant meal in the clubhouse before they made their way home, promising again to even the score when Paultons visit them later in the year. Bramshott Hill Seniors Results FAWLEY RFC UNDER 15’S CROWNED HAMPSHIRE VASE CHAMPIONS by Pete Schreiber Fawley RFC under 15’s were crowned the Hampshire Vase champions in their recent victory over Winchester RFC. e 21 strong side took the eld at Havant RFC on the 26th March in a erce competition with a two-squad team from Winchester. Fawley and Winchester exchanged points leads throughout the game which kept the intensity and tempo high, with neither side being able to be more than 5 points clear at any one time. e second half was a hard fought a air with Winchester taking points o the tee to keep the scoreboard ticking over and the pressure on. No 8. Joey Dryden was able to clatter his way through 3 defenders to secure the winning try and with Oli H adding the conversion, Fawley were able to take home the 24-18 victory. A fantastic day for a team that had only 7 players two seasons ago and have now secured promotion and will play a high standard of competitive county rugby in their 2023/24 under 16’s season.
