Located on Green Lane in Maybush, Southampton City Farm provides volunteering opportunities for a range of local people including the elderly, those facing mental health challenges, people with disabilities and those with low income. ey o er a safe environment in which people can interact with animals as well as learning vital life skills from woodwork and cooking to gardening and cra s. ey also o er young and adult carers the chance to enjoy the farm and take a break from their usual caring responsibilities. Now in their 11th year, the awards are an annual celebration of the incredible work carried out by animal charities and not-for-pro t organisations across the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands, in partnership with ADCH. From animal rescue to rehoming, the awards are an opportunity to recognise the achievements of those who dedicate their time to support animal welfare, and cover three categories including Volunteer of the Year, Team of the Year and Employee of the Year. is year’s awards will be held on Tuesday 16th May at e International Conference Centre in Telford where the nalists will enjoy a celebratory dinner and an evening of entertainment before the winners in each category are announced. Commenting on the nomination, Southampton City Farm Team Administrator, Natalie Sellwood said: “We isolation in adults and young people. The farm continues to empower people to realise their potential and go on to paid employment or maintain independent living skills.” Another sta member, Hannah, who started out as a volunteer added: “The farm has provided me a safe space that has given me an escape from reality, given me a sense of purpose, helped with my mental health, and taught me employable life skills that has led to my current role as a community worker”. We simply could not run without the support of our wonderful volunteers and our volunteer programme strives to improve mental health as well as reducing social isolation, both of which have been increased during the pandemic in our community, with the local area being in the most at risk category of social Lymington Arts Group holds meetings in the McLellan Hall at Lymington Community Centre, New Street, Lymington SO41 9BQ, on the second Friday a ernoon of each month (excepting February and August).
