Details of the 2023 season concerts are below, all given by young highly talented professional musicians and held at St Saviour’s Church, Brockenhurst at 7.30 pm. For more information please visit: www. brockenhurstmusicsociety.co.uk Monday 10th July - Victor Maslov (piano), international performer and prize winner praised by the New York Concert Review as having ‘close to all-round mastery of his repertoire’, playing works by Janacek, Stravinsky and Mussorgsky. Monday 21st August - Michael Gibson (tenor) and Lucy Colquhoun (piano), a talented young tenor performing this season at Covent Garden, and a sought-a er piano accompanist at the Royal College of Music, with a mix of works by English composers including Vaughan Williams, Finzi and Britten, together with some folk songs, parlour songs and short piano pieces. Monday 11th September - Trio Cordiera, established in 2016, bringing together three prize-winning musicians including Antoine Préat from France (piano) who played a wonderful recital in 2021, playing works by CPE Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Higdon. Monday 2nd October - Pelleas Ensemble, three ‘inventive’ and award-winning musicians playing the viola, ute and harp, playing works by Debussy, Strozzi, Berio, Bennett, Proko ev, Rameau and Smyth. Victor Maslov AN UPDATE FROM HYTHE & DIBDEN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION It is with sadness that we must report that our long term pre-school; Jack and Jill’s will be closing its doors at the end of the summer term. is leaves the Hythe and Dibden Community Centre with its Hall 2 empty during week days (9am to 4pm). If there is a pre-school (preferably but not essential) looking to move to a new premises please contact the Hythe and Dibden Community Centre. Other types of groups are also welcome, but the Centres proximity to Hythe School and it having its own en-suite child sized toilets makes a pre-school ideal. At our AGM on 19th May at Hythe and Dibden Community Centre, Chris White was elected the new Chairperson of the Association moving from her role as Treasurer. Corinne Evans was elected to be our new Treasurer and Sheila Reeves was returned as our Secretary. e main conversation points were to do with advertising the Community Centre, reminding our members and other villagers about its hire-ability and refreshments and wandering how to get more volunteers. Changes to HPHA Board Following the recent local elections, two new councillors have been appointed to the Board of the Hythe Pier Heritage Association (HPHA) by the Hythe and Dibden Parish Council (as is their right in HPHA’s constitution). Councillors Natalia Martinez and David Cole will take on the roles previously undertaken by retiring councillors Allan Fairhead and Simon Lodge. Allan Fairhead has however been co-opted to the Board to continue his work as HPHA’s primary connection to the Hythe Shed (at the pier). Allan, Natalia and David will join the other existing members of the HPHA board which comprises Anthony Smith (Chairman), Jill Gower, Alan Titheridge, Tina Brown, John Goddard and Paul McDaid. Alan Titheridge and Jill Gower will stand down as directors in rotation under the constitution but both have o ered themselves for re-election at the HPHA AGM on 22nd June. Put Your Best Face Forward New Forest and Waterside U3A next meeting is on Tuesday 4th July for a talk by Jane Glennie titled ‘Put your best face forward’. On Tuesday 18th July for a talk by Chris Davis titled ‘ e Royal Yacht Britannia’. Tea and biscuits are available a er the talk, and the meeting ends at approximately 3.30pm. New Forest and Waterside have many interest groups such as gardening, history, discussion, skittles and much more. ere is usually a lunch once a month and a holiday once a year. Other activities have included a visit to Bath Christmas Market, Hilliers for the lights, Lepe House open garden and theatre trips.
