Are you looking for a way to get or stay active? Or maybe you’ve never played rugby before but you’d like to have a go? What is Walking Rugby? Walking rugby is played on half a pitch and is a non-contact form of rugby. Players must be walking at all times. ‘Tackles’ are two-handed touch to the ball carrier; a try is scored by crossing the try line with both feet, no diving or bending required! What is Touch Rugby? Touch rugby is also a non-contact form of rugby including running. ‘Tackles’ are a touch on the ball or clothing of the ball carrier, play is restarted by stepping over the ball. Tries are scored by grounding the ball on or behind the try line. Adrian atcher says “My wife and I were brand new to the area when we first came across Fawley RFC at an event in Hythe. We’re keen rugby fans and thought it would be a great way of maintaining fitness as we approach retirement as well as integrating into the local community. Over the last 2 years, we’ve made good friends, had Dibden Open Golf Society (DOGS) Results 16th May the DOGS played a 3 Team Russian Roulette Stableford Competition plus all those usual fun competitions to be won by all. Pro’s Approach: C Peall (12th). 2’s winners: J Slade & Maton. 16th May winners Lyndhurst winners 30th May winners Cox (11th), D Wilson (17th). 26th May DOGS enjoyed their rst away day of the year, held at the Lyndhurst Golf Club, SUCCESS FOR WATERSIDE TABLE TENNIS CLUB Waterside Table Tennis Club players Gene Lam, Ed Slot, Raaghav Sharma and Jared Hon took most of the major trophies at this year’s Southampton Closed Table Tennis tournament, held recently at Testwood School. Gene Lam, a er her success last year playing for England, made history in becoming the rst person to win the Under 15 Singles, Under 19 Singles, Ladies Singles and Ladies Doubles in the 81 years that the Southampton Closed has been played. It has been a very good year for Waterside Junior players who have made so much progress under the tuition of Head Coach Adam Proszko and Specialist Coach John McBeath. Raaghav Sharma and Premier Division team mate Jared Hon, together won the Mens Doubles and also played each other in the Men’s Singles semi- nals with Raaghav winning, going through to the nal. ey then contested the Under 19 Boys Junior Final. It proved to be a highly competitive match. It was an excellent clash of styles with Jared’s le -handed aggressive approach against Raaghav’s tactics of blocking and waiting for the right moment to attack. A er losing the rst game, Jared had the chance to level it, but squandered a game point, for Raaghav to win it 14-12. Jared managed to claw one back, but Raaghav took the title on four games 11-7, 14-12, 7-11, 11-9. Ed Slot, who plays for Waterside A in the Southampton League, (Waterside A have won the STTA Premier Division 8 years in a row) won the Mens’ Singles title for the rst time, beating Raaghav Sharma in the nal in straight games. Ed started quickly, getting a 5-1 lead. But Raaghav fought back, saving two game points in the rst. It was a similar story in the second game, with Ed racing to a 7-0 lead, only for Raaghav to get himself back into it. In the end, Ed’s quality and experience saw him over the line, winning 11-8, 11-7, 11-9. In the semi- nals Ed beat Jason Lockyer (another Waterside player). Other Waterside winners were as follows: Premier Division Singles – Deane Whittington and Division 3 Singles - Allan Bransgrove. Luca Schumacher won the Under 12 Boys title in a very close match with George Prendergast. If you are interested in playing table tennis, Waterside Table Tennis Club welcomes players of all ages and abilities.
