Enter the Southampton New Comedian of the Year competition! e rst ever Southampton comedian of the year is starting this September and they are taking entries now. Over 100 acts will compete for the title of Southampton New Comedian of the Year with a £500 prize pool, in a hunt for the best new comedy acts in the area. Plus, the winner will have the opportunity to perform with some of the UK’s top comedians Ben Norris and Ian Smith in January along with bragging rights of being ‘Southampton New Comedian of the Year’! Heats will be taking place throughout September and October, culminating in the semi- nals in November and the Grand Final on Saturday 9th December at e Attic, in Totton. ere will also be additional categories of Young Performer (21 and under) sketch groups are welcome, the only restriction is that all contestants must live in or around Southampton up to a distance of 35 miles maximum and when performing stick to 5 minutes of material or risk disquali cation. Heats will take place on: Thursday 14th September 7pm, Saturday 23rd September 3.30pm, Monday 2nd October 7pm, Saturday 7th October 3.30pm, Monday 9th October 7pm and Thursday 12th October 7pm. Semifinals will follow on Saturday 18th November 3.30pm & 7pm with the Grand Final taking place on Saturday 9th December 7pm. Entries from character acts, musical acts and The Attic Farewell and Thank You, Pat At the last meeting of the Dibden Allotments Fund, retiring trustee, Pat Hedges, was presented with owers and an engraved vase by Chair, Jill Tomlin. Pat was touched and thanked the trustees. She remarked how rewarding it had been to play a role in helping so many waterside residents over the past 19 years. Pat, who joined the Fund on 31st March 2004, leaves big shoes to ll for their newest trustee, Suzie Kellett, who the trustees look forward to working with. All at Dibden Allotments Fund wish Pat a happy retirement. e Volunteer Police Cadets scheme provides a safe environment where young people can learn as individuals, develop positive relationships with the police and actively support the community. Volunteering your time as a Cadet Leader is a very personally rewarding thing to do. It will enable you to develop your skills to inspire young people to become good citizens. Whilst many of our leaders come from the policing family, we welcome adults from all walks of life and particularly encourage those without a policing background. You will undergo vetting to the highest national standards, including an enhanced DBS check enabling you to work alongside young people. ere are opportunities to become a leader no matter how many hours a week / month you are able to volunteer. e units operate around 2 hours per week in term times and you will be asked to assist in the running of sessions and supervision of cadets at policing events. You do not need any quali cations to become a leader as you will receive training to support you to develop your own knowledge and skillset. You do not have to have previous experience, only an interest in helping young people achieve their best and reach their full potential. So, if you’re looking for something fun to do that is full of opportunities and is extremely rewarding, you can get involved now as a Volunteer Cadet Leader.
