Henry Atkinson returned from the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California placing tied seventh in the 7-8 age group a er playing 54 holes across three days of competitive golf. Narrowly missing out on a trophy, Henry competed against 50 of the best seven and eight-year-olds across the globe in the tournament that has seen previous winners include Tiger Woods and Jason Day. It was Henry’s rst world-wide event a er qualifying through the British Junior Golf Tour last September. Henry, who makes up part of the Hampshire Under 12 Squad, shot three under par on his second round of the competition at Oak Glen Golf Course, starting the 18 holes with four birdies in a row. A brave decision was taken by event organisers, Hythe Pier Heritage Association (HPHA), to go ahead with the event, as other events and venues around the county were cancelled due to the high winds forecast that day. e decision paid o , as an amazing £9,000 was raised by the event through donations and the staged annually since 2018 raising valuable funds for HPHA to continue its programme of restoring historic Hythe Pier and its iconic pier railway. More volunteers will be needed if the event is to go ahead in 2024, please register your interest on the HPHA website: www.hythepierha.org.uk purchase of Rock the Pier merchandise. Hundreds gathered along e Promenade in Hythe, to be entertained with live music from local bands, kicking o with Trav Cats and Johnson Van Dykes, followed by Vision, REMbrandt and Stone Branches, with e Soulcatchers ending the event with a 1 hour set. Back in June, e Imaginarium had competed with other bookshops in the county to be named best in Hampshire and IOW, which put them in the pool for the national title. On 27th July, they received the news that they had won. Being chosen by an independent panel of judges and were selected over more established and longer running shops across the country. e Imaginarium opened in September 2022 in the heart of the New Forest. It’s a venture by husband and wife duo Daniel and Robyn, with Robyn being the face of and running, the shop. “We can’t actually believe that we won! We love our little shop, and we have a wonderful customer base who also love it, but it’s such an incredible feeling to be recognised for what we’re trying to achieve. We wanted to create a community hub, a safe space for readers to enjoy books and I think we’ve done that.” Robyn said. e Booksellers Association earlier on in the year reported that independent bookshops are at a tenreaders. Following the opening ceremony there will be activities happening on the pitches, a senior team game and other sections of the club showcasing their skills; refreshments and music taking us into the evening. We would like to welcome all players past and present, sponsors, volunteers, those involved with the build and members of the public to join us and help celebrate this fantastic achievement. Fawley Rugby Club currently have around 200 young members playing at all ages from 6 to 18 years of age, a girl’s group (Fawley Flames) a senior team, walking rugby and are currently in the process of starting a ladies team, all this has been achieved working from 3 storage containers, so we look forward to further developing the club with our new home. Our aim for the new clubhouse is to engage with the local community and be able to o er much needed modern facilities to clubs and businesses as well as expanding our membership. Once open, we will be organising a community day to showcase our clubhouse to local clubs and businesses, but why not come up and have a sneak preview of our facilities. We would like to thank in particular Dibden Allotments and NFDC for their generous grants, the RFU for funding and a loan and all local businesses who have been involved or contributed, in particular P.C. Despite the relentless rain, all the players turned up in force to try and win the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy along with team challenges, par three challenge and 8 other competitions. Before the day the total raised from golf days alone was £68,500 and £104,500 combining other events. anks to loyal players and sponsors the total raised on the day was £10,800 making a total of £115,300 in 11 years. Michael and Donna comment: “Thank you so much for all the efforts of every single player who not only took part but contributed with buying raffle tickets and auction prizes. Every year you amaze us with your spirit and generosity. Of course, our loyal local business sponsors, who most have been with us from the beginning, who donated auction prizes which really does help increase the money we can raise, those who donated raffle prizes and all our wonderful volunteers on the day.” 108 golfers took part in this year’s event including Saints legends Matt Le Tissier, Nicky Banger and Jason Dodd, all attempting to be crowned champion golfer and win the prestigious Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy. Paul Brogan was a local man who sadly lost his life to cancer in 2012, as a friend and keen golfer, Michael and Donna asked his family if the main trophy could be named in his memory. e 18 hole golf tournament started with bacon rolls in the club house with gradual registration throughout the morning with Donna Osman and Louisa Daniels. Players then according to their tee o time either conducted by comperes Marc Daniels and Tony Hobbs and the Trophy presentation conducted by Michael Osman. What an atmosphere!  e room was lled with so much energy all wanting the same outcome which they all achieved together. e handicap Secretary Marc Daniels worked hard verifying and recording the scores from the day until the presentation, the winner of the 11th SO45 Charity Golf Day winning the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy was Josh Mcphee. As well as the exciting races, there will be local food stalls available to keep you sustained for a fabulous day out for all the family. All proceeds from the day will go towards supporting children and young people diagnosed with cancer, and their families. Last year’s event raised over £12,000 for the Charity and they are hoping this year’s event will raise even more money. On Monday 24th July 60 members of Romsey Youth Choir together with their Director and Accompanist Marion and Chris Maxey and 6 accompanying adults headed to Northern Italy for what was to be a fantastic tour. On Tuesday, a er a swim and an explore of the beautiful town of Brescia, Italy’s city of culture 2023, the choir performed their rst concert in Chiesa di San Cristo. e church provided a delicious evening meal for the choir and chaperones before the evening concert inside the stunningly beautiful church known tour of Treviglio and then treated to a really delicious Italian meal before giving an evening concert of lighter popular music in the cloisters of the library, a really beautiful setting outside under the stars. Again they had a full and very appreciative audience with people standing and sitting round the edge as all the seats were taken. Friday saw the choir o to Sirmione, Lake Garda. Here they sampled the biggest and best Italian ice cream, enjoyed exploring the beautiful town and of course did some more singing. at evening the choir headed back into Verona for dinner followed by a visit to Verdi’s opera Nabucco, in the Verona Arena - such an amazing experience for everyone. Saturday was their last day in Italy and they headed to Venice. It was incredibly hot but incredibly beautiful - the grand canal, academia bridge, rialto bridge and of course St Marks Square as well as more ice creams and souvenir shopping. e tour culminated with the choir singing the evening mass in St Mark’s Basilica, Venice - an absolutely amazing experience for everyone. St Mark’s Bascilica is stunningly beautiful and has an incredible acoustic. It was so lovely that some of the choir’s parents ew out to hear them sing in this very prestigious building. e organist at St Mark’s complimented the choir on their great sound and musicality. The choir’s director Marion Maxey said: “This was an amazing tour and it was an honour to be away with such an incredible group of young people, we packed so much into our time and they loved all the experiences and sang so well. The manager of our second hotel kept complimenting us on how well behaved all the young people were. We could not have done this of course without the incredible team of adults who supported us throughout this tour. Wednesday morning saw a visit to Verona with Juliet’s Balcony, ice creams and the Verona Arena high on the list. at a ernoon the choir travelled to Treviglio which is twinned with Romsey. is was an incredibly special visit because of the wonderful links between the two towns. e choir were taken on a very interesting St Mark’s Basilica, Venice

During the event, Foodbank volunteers were frequently asked about the process of ensuring that the donated food reaches those who are most in need. As a Trussell Trust Foodbank, the organization operates as a crisisonly facility. Individuals seeking assistance must rst approach one of the Foodbank’s partner agencies, such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, New Forest District Council, social workers, doctor surgeries, local churches, or organizations like the Handy Trust and Dibden Allotments. ese agencies refer individuals to the Foodbank a er conducting a series of questions to determine if the Foodbank is the appropriate support system for them. is careful screening process ensures that the donated food is directed towards families and individuals facing genuine crises. Once an individual has received food parcels from the Foodbank on a few occasions, they are then referred to a dedicated support worker within the organisation. ese support workers, trained by the Citizens Advice Bureau, provide comprehensive assistance tailored to the speci c needs of each individual. is may include bene t checks, job applications, housing items: tinned meat, tinned fruit, tinned pulses, milk powder, tinned rice, tinned custard, sponge pudding, UHT milk, fruit juice, and dog food. Additionally, the Foodbank is actively seeking more volunteers.
