Suddenly the funeral director disappeared. She had fallen into the open prepared grave and all they could see was the top of her black hat. e family helped her out of the muddy grave and brushed her down. e poor lady was so embarrassed. Fortunately, they all saw the funny side of the situation, and they knew that Harry would have been highly amused. e grave was very uneven and the family said it was because Harry was looking for his pipe. With my grateful thanks to Margaret, Harry’s niece, for giving me his story, as well as the rest of his family for digging out their personal memories and sharing them. TALES FROM THE GRAVEYARD OF ALL SAINTS’ GRAVEYARD, FAWLEY C Brockenhurst Music Society Brockenhurst Music Society’s 77th season, continues on Monday 15th July - Sofia Sacco (piano), born in Italy, a prize winning graduate of the Royal Academy of Music London, and an extensive performer across Europe and the UK, playing works by Shostakovich, Couperin, Respighi, Croft and Beethoven. Monday 12th August - Caroline Taylor (soprano) and George Ireland (piano), praised for her ‘glittering soprano’ ( e Times), and an international performer in operatic roles as well as a concert soloist, performing with acclaimed recital partner George Ireland ‘ e Peasant’s Wise Daughter’: women’s stories through works by Schubert, Dvorak, Wolf and Schumann. Monday 2nd September - Anna Im (violin) and Chiao-Ying Chang (piano), Anna, born in Korea, and Chiao-Ying, born in Taiwan, both graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, and are international prize winners and performers; playing works by Beethoven, Grieg, Schubert and Saint-Saens/Ysaye. All the above concerts will be held at St Saviour’s Church, Brockenhurst at 7pm. Lace up your walking boots and join Romsey Rotary Club on Sunday 29th September for this year’s Walk the Test Way and raise money for your chosen charity. Last year walkers raised just over £90,000 for 115 charities. e Test Way is constantly rated one of the top 10 best walks in the area and each year this event draws interest from many groups from families, Schools, Scout packs, charities and businesses all walking and raising funds to support the vital work that charities do. e walk is fun and suitable for all ages and abilities, with 5 distances to choose from (5, 8, 11, 16 or 25.5 miles). Walkers are taken by private coach from Romsey to their starting location and end the walk back in Romsey at the Memorial Park.
