A er researching several local charities, the council voted and unanimously decided they wanted to raise funds to support the Honeypot Children’s Charity. e Honeypot charity seeks to give young carers, aged 5-12, a much deserved break from the stress and anxiety of caring for a sick loved one. Alongside this, the charity aims to support young carers in having the con dence and self-belief to succeed in education and in life. Orchard’s Council were moved by a video about the charity in which they saw a child, about the same age as them, spending a lot of time, on a daily basis, supporting a parent. Children at the school were allowed to go to school in their own clothes in exchange for a donation to the charity. Viv Carter, who is the Community Engagement O cer for Honeypot, visited the school in Dibden Purlieu, alongside the charity’s mascot, Bumble, to lead an assembly, explaining to the pupils about the essential work of the charity, which depends upon donations. e children raised £298 which, due to the charity’s recent ‘Summer Big Give Appeal’, was doubled to £596! Viv Carter comments: “We are so grateful to Orchard Junior School for supporting children who are the same age as the pupils but as young carers are shouldering the responsibility of looking after a parent or sibling. These funds have been doubled as part of our summer appeal and are enough to fund all the food and treats for 35 local young carers to enjoy whilst they are on their 3 day/2night annual residential respite break at Honeypot House. Thank you Orchard Juniors!” Viv and Bumble meeting pupils at Orchard Junior School Lions Fun Day at Paultons Park Every year Romsey & Waterside Lions organise ra es of large Belgian Chocolate Easter Eggs in pubs, clubs and other outlets in the local area to raise funds to send disadvantaged and less able children for a day of fun at Paultons Park. is year there were 205 participants who spent a rain free day enjoying the many rides the Park has to o er. e Lions would like to thank everyone who participated in the ra es and made the day such a success for so many families.
