Forty volunteers from Abby’s Heroes worked the 18,000 strong crowd swapping donations for over 4,000 bags of freshly harvested watercress donated by e Watercress Company. More funds were raised by the popular Big Green Egg BBQ sessions run by the team at Lainston House/Season Cookery School where people paid to be taught how to achieve the perfectly prepared and cooked BBQ burger! Jane Wilmshurst and Abby’s Heroes founder and CEO, Sally Randall visited Manor Farm watercress farm to be o cially presented with the money. ey also learned that the Festival Committee had agreed that Abby’s Heroes would be the o cial charity for the Festival on Sunday 20th May next year. Sally said: “We can’t thank the organisers, our volunteers or the festival goers enough for their generosity. Raising such a large sum from one event is an amazing achievement and testament to all the hard work that goes into making the Festival such a success year after year. We are really chuffed to have been chosen again as next year’s charity. We absolutely LOVE attending the festival and it feels really good to be strengthening our friendship with all involved. I’d like to say a special thank you to Tom at the Watercress Company for his support and enthusiasm – and of course the watercress! Here’s to 2025 and another fantastic festival!” Abby’s Heroes is based in Southampton and exists or mortgage payments, household bills and other everyday living costs while the child is in hospital, additional travel costs to hospital or sadly help towards funeral expenses. Tragically, in the UK, one child in 500 will develop some form of cancer by the age of 14 and treatment can be required for months, and more o en years. e money raised at the Alresford Watercress Festival will help more families in need of support. Claire May, Alresford Watercress Festival Manager said: “The work that Abby’s Heroes does is invaluable. We’re so proud to have been able to donate such an impressive sum and thank everyone who donated. Abby’s Heroes supports families by providing grants to help relieve the nancial crisis parents nd themselves facing as a result of their child’s diagnosis. ese grants can be for a host of reasons such as rent Age Concern New Forest is a local charity that supports older people aged 55+ as well as their family, friends and carers. As part of our services we provide weekly and monthly lunch clubs where our clients can enjoy a hot meal, make new friends and catch up with community matters. As part of our fundraising events we hold regular ra es which provide vital funds to enable us to sustain this valuable service.
