A record breaking high tide in April ooded the ground oor by more than a metre but the Club was up and running on a skeleton basis within a month. A full refurbishment is now complete, enabling the outstanding Gins Team to o er a full Menu and complete waterside facilities. Back in 1964, Edward, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, a very notable Member, enabled the Club, founded in 1875, to build ‘Gins’ midway between the Beaulieu River entrance and Buckler’s Hard. e site is where medieval monks used gins, a derrick or crane, to load and unload produce for nearby St Leonards Grange. At that time, the Royal Southampton’s Clubhouse was land-locked on Northlands Road in Southampton. So, in contrast, waterside access in probably the most beautiful location in e Solent, o ering views from Exbury to Cowes and Gurnard, provided Members with the ultimate combination of sailing and hospitality with a Pontoon and Bosun service available to Members and visiting yachts. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Club’s facilities today and can book a berth, lunch and dinner or can access the club by car. e Club can also cater for special events. e Club Launch can be contacted on VHF Channel 77 call sign “SEA ECHO”. Club Commodore Guy Darby commented “The video showing the power of the sea, a foot higher than the bank, inundating the Club and the fields towards St Leonards was frankly awesome. The Committee is hugely grateful to our Business Manager, Stuart, his team and key Members, for bringing the Club back to full operation in time for the Gins Diamond Jubilee. Sitting on the balcony at Gins with Chef Albin’s superb food and a fine glass of wine, enjoying panoramic views of the Beaulieu River and the Isle of Wight simply cannot be beaten, and combined with a full range of sailing, cruising and social activities, we look forward to welcoming Members and visitors alike!” For more information, contact RSYC Business Manager Stuart Earp on: 023 8022 3352 or email: businessmanager@rsyc.org.uk What 3 Words: shuttered.cages.tolerable Gins to Celebrate Diamond Jubilee RSYC Gins Balcony Great Waterside Raft Race e 2024 Great Waterside Ra Race raising funds for the RNLI is taking place in Hythe Marina on Sunday 4th August.
