Lucie Mann, from New Forest Aquaponics, will be talking about the work they are doing at their new site in Boldre (not Surbiton!) to develop a regenerative culture. It promises to be a fascinating evening. Lucie also runs the Waterside Food Project, Waterside Repair Cafe and Waterside Clothes Swaps amongst many other activities. With increased space on the new site, Lucie has started an aluminium can recycling project. Crushed cans, aluminium balls from foil and trays etc are welcome. Just aluminium please. On 30th September (venue tbc), Bea Udale-Smith, Engagement O cer at the Environment Centre, will be talking about the health, nancial and environmental impact of wood-burning, and how small changes to how you burn can reduce the amount of pollution produced. She will also be exploring actions we can take to reduce air pollution in general, and breathe cleaner air. The Environment Centre is an independent environmental charity with extensive experience delivering local air quality projects. ey are currently working with Global Action Plan to train healthcare professionals across Southampton, whilst also delivering a wood-burning project on behalf of New Forest District Council and other local authorities in Hampshire. WaterCAN have been supporting Honeypot House’s veg beds projects, which have just produced their rst results, which apparently have disappeared rather quickly! An interesting exercise in selfsu ciency. And nally, following Shaun Russell’s enlightening talk on green roofs, some of us have been looking up a bit more than usual and noticing the number of bee friendly green roofs on Bluestar bus shelters around the area. Bit of a buzz around! Other Potential visits for 2024: Visit to ExxonMobil Petro Chemical Plant, Breakfast at Calshot Activities Centre, a Trip on Solent Dolphins ‘Alison MacGregor’ and a Visit to Cowes, with lunch at the Island Sailing Club. e meeting concluded with an interesting talk by John Allison titled ‘New Forest for Ukraine’ describing the activities of the New Forest organisation in delivering supplies to Ukraine. From its early days this group have progressed from van to truck deliveries, now taking 4 days each way. John described Soviet type buildings and scarcity of food seen on his visits. To date a total of 385 generators have been delivered, which have proved to be very useful in providing essential power during Russian attacks. In conclusion John was concerned that there were several independent groups delivering supplies to the Ukraine, without any formal coordination.
