Gill has her own oristry business and grows most of her foliage in her garden. She described how she joined forces with other orists during the pandemic to o er a Mother’s Day service and they were inundated with orders. Her rst arrangement was within an interesting trough made of unusual wood slices. is was a vertical design which included lime green conifer (feathery texture), balotta foliage (grey/green, u y), woodland ferns, hosta leaves to give a variety of interest in foliage and so en the outline of the base. So pink gladioli gave the vertical structure and other owers included pale peach/pink spray roses, frilly white alstroemerias and lavender. Beautiful and summery! Arrangement number two was a gorgeous arrangement constructed on a black metal stand with an exquisite design of owing birch twigs xed to the top. Gill’s arrangement owed over the birch twigs from the centre and included trailing ivy, ferns, mouthwatering orange and black centred germinis (Bison), burgundy hypericum, burgundy and grey heuchera leaves and a pop of lime with our alchemilla mollis leaves and owers. Gill’s third arrangement was a white and green design within a white container. She used thick dark green stems with black stripes to form a construction, including shapes in horizontal form. en lled the container with white lisianthus, pale green carnations, snowy white gerbera (Bianco), phoenix palm leaves, balotta and conifer – all giving di erent shades of white and green and a variety of textures. To keep the “eye” interested the gerberas were in a vertical line and turned at di erent angles. e fourth was a memorial arrangement within a wicker hoop on a at basket base. Flowers were sumptuous and included Harlequin roses (white and crimson striped), deep burgundy carnations, white piñata hydrangeas and lavender. Foliage included conifers, red robin (photinia), recessed hosta leaves and apple mint – a very special design. Number ve was in a conical galvanised container with a wire stand and owed in a vertical direction. Beautiful mauve canna lilies were featured with cerise spray roses and white lisianthus. Foliage included spider web fatsia, green euonymus, and bunny ears, as always working with shades to include the container. e grand nale was summer in a pot! A chunky, bulbous terracotta pot was lled with three sun owers (facing di erent directions), lemon Minion roses, apricot spray chrysanthemums, di erent shades of foliage and dried wheat (white) to name some of the plants – wonderful! Gill’s banter was great too and we enjoyed a thoroughly beautiful entertaining evening! e next meeting will be 15th September for a demonstration ‘Pretty as a Picture’ by Mel Smith. Followed on 3rd October for an in house Bring and Do – autumn designs. For more information about Foresters Flower Club please contact Debbie orne on: 07769 830752.
