A Total of eighty-four players making up twenty-one teams from as far away as Upavon Golf Club y miles to the north of Dibden, Queens Park Golf club twenty seven miles west of Dibden and Peters eld Golf Club forty Miles east of Dibden. A total of thirteen clubs entered with Portsmouth entering ve teams, Alresford four teams and Meon Valley two teams. e rst Tee was at 8.30am and the last at 12noon. e weather was reasonable with showers forecast. e course had been prepared by ‘MyTime’ sta led by the head groundsman Gary Hawker and a superb job they had done, thank you, well done all. Bramshott Hill Seniors organised Ball Spotters, Starters, Car park attendants and a refreshment tent. is allowed the event to run smoothly and to time. As teams completed their game they were served a meal in the clubhouse, again thanks to ‘MyTime’ sta . On completion they were lucky enough to have avoided any rain and the general opinion was that it had been a splendid day in every respect. e refreshment tent was organised by two of their lady members Jackie and Hazel. e comments that they received were outstanding. Several visitors claimed that it was the best refreshment tent they had ever encountered, some even claiming that it is the only reason they attend the Bramshott Seniors Open, again a big thank you to Jackie and Hazel. During the day they were collecting for the Captains chosen charities for this year. Dave Wilson has chosen to support ‘Wet Wheels’ a charity based in Hamble that provides disabled people the chance to go to sea for short excursions on the Hamble river, Southampton water and the Solent. He has also chosen to support Oakhaven Hospice. A ra e was running all day and raised a total of £585, in addition to this a charity collection box was placed at the refreshment tent and raised £191.76. erefore a total of £776.76 was added to the Captains charity fund. e total collected throughout the year will be presented to the chosen charities at their Christmas lunch in December. Finally, before the results a very special thank you must go to Ray Dunkason for organising the whole event in such a superb manner, it couldn’t have gone better, well done Ray. e nal results were as follows: Winners - Alresford B - 118 points, 2nd - Brokenhurst - 116 points, 3rd - Meon Valley A - 113 points c/b, 4th - Portsmouth A - 113 points c/b, 5th - Portsmouth C - 111 points. And Finally Golf is mainly a game of skill, however there is always an element of luck. e ball spotter on the sixteenth witnessed the following. A player teed o and it was not a bad drive, it landed on the fairway but rolled o into the trees. is should not have caused any great problem but on this occasion the players luck deserted him. As can be seen from the photograph the next shot proved a little di cult. Bramshott Hill Seniors Open Peter Swann Trophy and Monthly Medal ursday 27th June, 42 New Forest Golf Club Seniors gathered to play in what is believed to be a format unique to New Forest Golf Club. Termed a Lynsome (a er Lyndhurst), this consists of a combination of strokeplay and matchplay whereby competitors play an eighteen hole strokeplay round on the course, then using their scorecard, play knockout matchplay in the clubhouse against drawn opponents until an eventual winner emerges. e weather was mostly bright and sunny and slightly cooler than recent days. e drive across the boggy penalty area on the 15th was quite challenging with the white tee a long way back, but this did not deter many from trying their luck with varying degrees of success. Back in the clubhouse the virtual Terry Gordon with the Peter Swann Trophy match went on for 6 rounds with Gill Wright and Terry Gordon eventually facing each other in the nal. e atmosphere was tense as their scores for each hole were called out until Terry Gordon emerged clear winner of the Peter Swann Trophy. Results: 1st Terry Gordon, 2nd Gill Wright, losing semi- nalists Chris Angell and Trevor Davies. Neil Edmondson won nearest the pin on the 11th. ursday 4th July, on a day that started o rather cool and windy, 46 New Forest Golf Club Seniors competed for the July Monthly Medals. Barry Nicholas won the Division 1 medal, one stroke ahead of Malcolm Guy. Alan Clark was the clear winner in Division 2 with nett 66, three ahead of his nearest rivals. Second place in division 2 was shared by Mike Wharton and Wayne Niles, both having scored nett 69, with back 9=32, back 6=21, back 3=10 and nett 4 on the 18th and the 1st holes. Medal winners (L-R) Barry Nicholas and Alan Clark Jon Grainger won nearest the pin on the 14th hole in his rst ever competition as a New Forest Senior. Division 1: 1st Barry Nicholas – nett 65, 2nd Malcolm Guy – nett 66 and 3rd Mike Broom – nett 67. Division 2: 1st Alan Clark – nett 66, Equal 2nd Mike Wharton and Wayne Niles – nett 69 (back 9=32). Pete Bennett and Tom Richards also had nett 69, but back 9 scores of 35 and back 6 scores of 24 and 25 respectively.
