Summer had nally arrived. e sun shone brightly, the course looked excellent and a good game was anticipated. However, there were some hidden dangers, the rough alongside the fairways was still very rough and if your ball wandered o the fairway you were in deep trouble. Sadly the conditions beat seven players who withdrew from the competition. In spite of this, some good scores were returned and the results were as follows: Division 1: 1st Rob Hallett 74, 2nd Mike Wells 75, 3rd Stu Bulbrooke 75. Division 2: 1st Johnny Hooper 74, 2nd David Kellaway 74, 3rd Kevin Rothwell 75. Division 3: 1st Keith Cartwright 79, 2nd John Yapp 83, 3rd Terry Wiseman 84. Monday 24th June and 35 happy Bramshott Hill Seniors gathered for their Monday morning competition. e summer was still here with glorious sunny conditions. e ground sta had made headway with the rough, which hindered the game the previous week and the course was in good condition for the game. is week all players completed the course and the results were as follows: Division 1: 1st Stu Bulbrooke 38, 2nd Kevin Boot 37, 3rd Peter Gates 34. Division 2: 1st Paul Collins 37, 2nd Terry Wiseman 36, 3rd Kenny Vine 35. ursday 28th June saw the arrival of their overseas visitors from the Isle of Wight. A team from Ryde golf club visited the mainland to play in an interclub match against Bramshott Hill. e weather was overcast to start but as the day progressed the sun came out and they enjoyed a lovely summers day. On completion of the match drinks and socialising were enjoyed on the terrace before they were called into the clubhouse for a very enjoyable meal. On this occasion there were no victors as each team won three games and shared a creditable draw. Bramshott Hill will visit Ryde on the Isle of Wight in late August for the return match with every intention of coming away with a victory, watch this space! On Monday 8th July Bramshott Seniors prepared for their Monday morning competition. is was to be a Stableford quali er. irty-eight players prepared to take to the course even though heavy showers were predicted. It would seem that the summer had once again decided to go on holiday which seems to be happening a lot this year. On completion and having been rained on fairly heavily the results were in and are as follows: Division 1: 1st Rob Hallett 35pts, 2nd Stu Bulbrooke 32pts, 3rd Kevin Boot 32pts. Division 2: 1st Henry Porter 36pts, 2nd Gerry Murphy 32pts, 3rd Peter Gates 32pts. Division 3: 1St Keith Cartwright 38pts, 2nd David Wyatt 36pts, 3rd George Carroll 33pts. 25th June the ‘DOGS’ played their Annual Midsummer Madness competition played on a wonderful hot summers day over 2 rounds on the 9 hole Course, an early start followed by an excellent breakfast dished up by the lovely Mytime catering sta in e Solent Suite, and to complete an excellent day prizes were presented by the ‘DOGS’ Organisers Dave Lowman (2 Time Winner) and Colin Peall. Winners: 1st Round: Malcolm Drodge, Naomi Lowman, Dave Lowman and Sue Hallett Winners: 2nd Round: Lou Cohen, Ron Gooding, C Peall and Dave Lowman. All the usual wine drinkers and a wonderful group photo to nish an excellent day in the sunshine. 2nd July was Round 1 of the ‘DOGS’ Annual Championship, a medal 18 hole round, with the usual add on games. Medal Winner with a fantastic net score of 60 was Sue Hallett, 2nd: D Webster (67C/B), 3rd: L Cohen (67C/B), 4th: S Lawson (68). Nearest the pin winners: R James (4th) and P Rogers (11th). Pro’s Approach: J Manning (15th) 2’s Winners: D Lowman & L Jones. 9th July was Round 2 of the ‘DOGS’ Annual Championship, the competition was to be a Stableford 18 hole round to decide who would be the ‘DOGS’ 2024 Golf Champion, but the 2nd round was abandoned due to extreme weather conditions with only a few brave golfers nishing the course (very wet). Stableford winners: 1st: Jo Renyard (42), 2nd: T Oliver (38), 3rd: D Sly (34), 4th: N Dixon (33), 5th: M Eve (32). Nearest the pin: D Sly (4th). The day started rather cool but soon warmed up as the sun emerged through the clouds. Competition was intense requiring countback calculations to decide all top positions in both divisions. Ian Coundon won the Summer plate by the smallest of margins with an excellent nett 64, a score that could well have been even better as several putts just shaved the hole rather than dropping in. Division 1: 1st Malcolm Guy 68 nett (back 9=27), 2nd Ivor Griffiths 68 nett (back 9=34), 3rd Jim Worsley 70 nett (back 9=33, back 6=20) and 4th Chris Angell 70 nett (back 9=33, back 6=22). Division 2: 1st Ian Coundon 64 nett (back 9=30), 2nd Charlie Ian Coundon with the Summer Plate Von Landau 64 nett (back 9=31), 3rd Dave Titchmarsh 67 nett (back 9=32) and 4th Rob Young 67 nett (back 9=33). by Dave Stokes A er a successful rst season as Eling Ladies, crowned Division 6 champions in the Hampshire County Women’s Leagues, and an equally successful partnership with Hythe & Dibden Youth FC, a merge with the Men has followed to become the rst Women’s team in the Waterside area Hythe & Dibden (H&D) FC Women got o to their pre-season recently, on 19th July and have been training in the lovely summer sunshine. ey have a strong number of 16 original players from their 1st season as Eling Ladies re-sign but are looking for an extra few players to complete their squad for this upcoming season.
