And whilst the topic of menopause is at the height of conversations these days, it’s still surprising how little support, knowledge and empathy us women receive both from our Drs, but also society and our workplace!! As women enter into perimenopause, our hormones are doing the fandango, our body changes, we experience debilitating symptoms which e ects our emotions, our mood, our ability to think clearly, and an e ect our work performance. is, coupled with still managing family life, ageing parents, demands of friends and family and spinning multiple plates, no wonder life can get overwhelming, stressful, emotional, we feel we are no longer in control of who we are or what is happening around us which can lead to depression, burn out, strain on relationships (divorces can escalate at this time!) As a woman in perimenopause running Menopause is hard at rst, messy in the middle but beautiful at the end when you learn how to navigate it like a pro! When you know how to manage or alleviate your symptoms, and when you know how to do this yourself without needing to rely on a Dr who may not know how to support your individual needs! is is when you take back control of your health and your life!! Just know there is a way, there is a shining beacon there is support out there, do not keep what is happening to you inside, you are not alone, please talk to your friends or your partner. Let them know what you are going through whether that be insomnia, hot ushes, mood swings, weight gain (to name of few of 70 di erent menopause symptoms). You are going to be going through massive changes to your body, your mind, your hormones and this means what once used to work for you i.e. the food you ate, supplements you take, exercise habits also need to change, because what once worked for you will no longer be as e ective. Oakhaven Hospice has been a vital part of the local community for over 30 years. e Oakhaven team is currently in the process of shaping the hospice’s strategy for the next 5-10 years and welcomes you to spend a few minutes of your time completing a survey. Your input will help Oakhaven Hospice to ensure that it is meeting the future care needs of families living in the New Forest, Totton and Waterside communities. To complete the survey please visit: www. oakhavenhospice.co.uk/survey or scan the QR code. Demand for Oakhaven’s specialist services grows each year. Last year the hospice cared for 1,400 patients and supported over 3,200 local people who visited the Coates Centre to bene t from wellbeing and bereavement support. It costs £8 million each year to fund Oakhaven’s services. Yet just 11% of Oakhaven’s funding is covered by the NHS, for the remaining 89% the charity relies on your kind donations, fundraising, gi s in wills and income from the Oakhaven charity shops and social enterprise Oakhaven Care Ltd.
