Visitors to the councils’ brightly coloured and bustling marquee took part in games and activities including a giant jigsaw and fast-paced recycling sorter to learn ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. ere were prizes for the best recycling champions including a refillable aluminium water bottle and copies of Simon Chadwick’s book ‘ e Rubbish Monster ing’. Hampshire County Council explained to show-goers how to reduce food waste, ways to give your old household items another life, and how to start home composting. Cllr Alison Hoare, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at NFDC said: “We chose to focus on waste and recycling this year as we know people are really keen to do their bit for the environment. We don’t want people to be put off recycling because it is confusing. We want people to get the ‘six in the sack’ right, putting paper, card, tins, cans, aerosols, and plastic bottles in their clear sacks.” e stand won rst place for best large stand from the Show organisers.
